Happy New Year!

Hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and New Years break!

Congratulations to all of the newly elected and re-elected women in Local Government across WA. We have finished processing the election results data and are proud to announce an increase in the number of women elected on Councils in WA now sitting at 39.3%.

We are also celebrating the huge increase of women elected as Mayors/Shire Presidents, and Deputy Mayors/Deputy Shire Presidents. There are now 18 Local Governments with an all female leadership team which is encouraging. Well done ladies!

Have your say…

Our first event for 2022 is a WAWA’s members discussion to deep dive into the proposed Local Government Act Reforms to form a position from a women’s perspective. The session will be facilitated by the wonderful Lynne Craigie OAM and be held in the LGIS board room.

Registrations are free, and we hope to see as many Country and Metro WAWAs there as possible.

ALGWA National Conference

ALGWA National and Queensland Branch invite you to join us in Airlie Beach from 1-3 March 2022. This year’s conference theme is Women Connected and Unshaken. The last couple of years have thrown out some challenges. This is the perfect opportunity to take time to reflect, learn and network with your colleagues. We have put together an inspiring program of engaging speakers who will share their experiences, after all our aim is to support you to be the best you can be.

Standing Up

During the WA Local Government elections, our WAWA committee members hosted a series of workshops with an array of inspirational guest speakers across WA designed to encourage and empower more women to nominate for Council. These workshops were championed by women from the hosting local Councils and well attended. The election results are a great indicator that this program was successful.

The 2022 WA Women’s Hall of Fame nominations are now open. Inductees will be selected from one of eight categories: Community, Business, Health, Education, the Arts, Culture, STEM and Sport.

Elevate a woman from Local Government by nominating them for the WA Women’s Hall of Fame before the February 4th deadline.
