Loreto Highlights Update - 14th January 2022
New Beginnings
Upper Primary began the new term with a New Year's assembly reflecting on their resolutions for the year ahead.  Pupils were inspired to think about the great opportunities that lie ahead and how their positive behaviour can have an impact on this.

We expect great things from our pupils this year!
Year 3 discussed how they celebrated the new year. They wrote down their New Year's resolutions and reflected on what makes a year good or bad.

Gardening Club
Over the Christmas break the garden has flourished with some produce for the pupils to try.  They tried some of Noa's Radish, which was not too spicy and Maria's Lettuce.  The pupils have taken home some fresh lettuce to use in their salads and sandwiches.
Science
Year 5 are back in science mode, proving mixtures can be separated by evaporation and condensation.
Athletics
Well done to Hugo and Oscar who were both awarded trophies for competing in the athletics competition last term.
Faith Diary

This is the time of year when we tend to focus on new things.  This week’s Gospel also centres on a new thing - Jesus’ first miracle,  the changing of the water into wine at the wedding feast in Cana.  At the request of his mother, He chooses this moment, when the wine has apparently run out, to let his glory be seen’  for the first time and save his host from  embarrassment.  Marriage and wedding feasts, as well as food and wine,  are metaphors often used in Scripture to refer to God's generous plan for our salvation.  Wine in abundance is a symbol of generosity and remains an integral part of many celebrations to this day, but here the abundant best wine comes not at the beginning of the party but at the end, when it seems to have run out altogether.  In the history of Israel, Jesus, the best and most abundantly generous part of God’s plan for our salvation, also came at the end, after a very long period of waiting during which many believed that, like the wine,  God’s patience with his people had run out. But God’s patience is infinite, and He too kept the best wine- his own son-  until last.  We celebrate this at every Eucharist, and we celebrate it still with bread and with wine. As John tells us:’ This was the first of the signs given by Jesus …. and his disciples believed in him’. May we always believe in Him too.

Thank You
On the last day of term our Head Boy and Head Girl presented some gifts to Paul, our crossing PMO.  Paul does a wonderful job on making sure pupils, and parents cross the busy Europa Road safely.  Thank you ever so much for being such a star with the pupils.
Making A Splash!
Year 5 and Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their first swimming lesson of the year down at GASA Swimming pool.
It was a fabulous start to the new term, with a great standard of swimming for Week 1.
Inmaculada Charity Road Race
On Sunday, 12 December 2021 I participated in the annual Imaculada Charity Road Race, organised by the Athletic Club and Town Hall of La Línea. Before the race all the participants were asked to donate 1 kilo of non perishable food or school supplies for Caritas Inmaculada.
I took part in the 500m race for eight to ten years olds. After a strong start by the rest of the field I was in fifth place. I felt a bit nervous but I managed to control myself. In the second half of the race I was really determined and I managed to cross the finish line well ahead of the rest of the runners.
I was so excited that I jumped with joy. Later on, I was called up to the podium to receive my gold medal. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
Almudena

Well done, Almudena!
Gold Book
Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage 2 who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.
Reuse, Replace, Recycle!
The LSSC crew spent the last month upcycling and recycling to create Christmas decorations and present tags out of old pieces of card, newspapers, magazines and jam jars. They raised a total of £66.10 which they are donating to The EV Foundation, a local charity which supports children and families in need. A huge well done and thanks go to Hannah (the environmental prefect) and the rest of the LSSC team.
Fishing
Year 2 have read the story 'Fishers of men" for Religion. They played a fishing game, where they had to fish for people who they thought would be good followers of Jesus.
Getting Crafty!
Year 1 have been using sponges to create a textured affect to make horses. This is part of our new topic on Animals and Toys.
House Points
To end our Autumn Term, we presented our Academic and Sports House totals.  Both our academic and sports points have been very close at the top throughout the Autumn term.  St Joan's were in first place for our Academic points and St Catherine's for our Sports points.
