! Trash & Recycling  Slide THIS Week !


THIS WEEK we have a trash slide for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. When a holiday occurs, DC DPW trash/recycling collection days “slide” to the next day for the rest of the week. This means that:

     - West Georgetown's trash collection will be on Wednesday, and trash and recycling will be collected on Saturday.
     - Burleith's and Foxhall's trash and recycling will be collected on Friday.
     - The Cloisters will be unaffected as trash and recycling are collected by a private hauling company. 

Be sure your housemates are also aware of the change and adjust your schedule this week so you do not receive a citation from the university or a ticket from the city.

Remember to Test Before Returning to the Neighborhood

Students, faculty and staff returning to campus after the winter break will need to get tested prior to their arrival on campus, following the arrival testing schedule described here, regardless of their vaccination status or whether they have traveled or remained in the local area. 

Students who remained in the DC, Maryland and Virginia region for winter break:
  • Take a PCR test within 24 hours prior to scheduled arrival on campus or within 24 hours of arrival at your off-campus residence, whichever is earlier.
    • Please do not access campus (other than to test) until you receive a negative result from a PCR test. If you receive a positive result, isolate in your residence and do not access campus until you complete the isolation period.
    • If a PCR test is taken off-campus through a third-party provider, email the test result to covid19-test-results@georgetown.edu.
Students living off campus who are traveling to DC from outside the DC, Maryland and Virginia region after winter break:
  • We strongly encourage you to take a PCR or antigen test within 24-48 hours prior to departure, if possible. If you receive a positive result, isolate where you are and do not travel to the DC region until you complete the isolation period.
  • Take a PCR test within 24 hours of arriving in the DC region. Please do not access campus (other than to test) until you receive a negative result from a PCR test.

Welcome Kits

To help keep our off-campus students safe, we will provide welcome kits to all students living in the Neighborhoods that include two Georgetown face coverings, a thermometer, hand sanitizer, wipes and a Hoya Neighborhood Living Guide. Staff from the Office of Neighborhood Life will deliver welcome kits through contactless delivery January 12 – February 1.

Students should select one student from their household to fill out the request form indicating how many people are in their house and select a date for welcome kits to be delivered.

Move-In Drive Spring 2022

Do your part to keep your community clean! For the neighborhoods Georgetown, Burleith, Foxhall and the Cloisters, Georgetown University will pick up your excess move-in trash, cardboard, and bulk items through February 7th for the neighborhoods. Click here to request a pick-up.

After February 7th, please call the Office of Neighborhood Life or email your Community Director (Gwendolyn Coleman for Burleith, Foxhall and the Cloisters, Spe'shall Coleman for Georgetown) to request a trash pick-up. If you are contacting your Community Director to schedule a pick-up, do not put items out for collection until your Community Director confirms your pick-up request has been received.

D.C.'s Pop-Up Underground Art Show is BACK!

* Proof of double vaccination required to attend. Photo or original vaccination card accepted. Negative Covid test not accepted.

Pop-Tart Tuesday will (hopefully) return February 1st!

D.C. Tree and Holiday Greenery Collection

D.C.'s Department of Public Works (DPW), announced that Christmas trees and holiday greenery will be collected from homes that receive DPW curbside between January 3 and February 28, 2022. Trees and greenery can be left at the normal point of collection for trash and recycling or at the curbside. Items collected during this period will be composted; in the spring, the mulch will be provided to residents at no cost. Households not serviced by DPW should consult with their landlord/property owner for collection procedures.

Highlights of the 2022 collection program include:

  • Where to place trees and greenery. DPW will collect Christmas trees from the normal point of collection for trash/recycling (rear/alley) or curbside.
  • Remove decorations. When setting items out for collection, residents should remove all ornaments and lights. Do not place trees and greenery in a bag.
  • Trees become free compost for residents. Trees and greenery collected through February 28 will be composted. District residents can collect up to five 32-gallon bags of the free compost year-round while supplies last at the Fort Totten Transfer Station. Residents must bring their own bags.
  • Composting not guaranteed after February 28. After that date, residents can still place Christmas trees and holiday greenery where their trash is collected; however, composting is not guaranteed. The items will be picked up with the trash as space in DPW trucks permits.
  • Steps if Christmas tree and/or holiday greenery was not collected. Contact 311 to create a “Christmas Tree Removal - Seasonal” service request.
