FRIENDS OF FLADBURY 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👧👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Louise writes:

Friends of Fladbury Meeting - Tuesday, February 1st at 7pm in The Chequers

At our first meeting for some time, we will be discussing the future of the group after limited activity during the pandemic. In the past we have organised village events and fundraised to support village groups and projects. Please come along to meet us if you haven’t been involved in the past and want to find out more.

We will also be having a round up of the Fladbury Festive Five, a 5 mile off-road run, which took place on Sunday 9th January raising over ✨£1000✨ for Friends of Fladbury and Alzheimer’s Research UK. Many thanks to all those who helped cake making, marshalling, taking photos, packing goodie bags, marking the course. The event could not take place without the support of Fladbury villagers, friends and family.

We had almost 200 runners this year who all enjoyed the event so much. Here are a couple of comments we received:

"Thanks so much to you and the team for today, was great event, marshaling and of course cake 👌."
"Thank you for staging a great event especially with the extra complications of Covid safety measures."
"Nice selection of items in the gift bags. It's always a nice local community event."

FLADBURY WALKABOUT 2022 🌺

Steve writes:

Zoom Meeting - 7pm Tuesday 8th February

With COVID 19 restrictions easing, we are pleased that our Walkabout event seems possible this year and the first planning meeting has been scheduled on Zoom for 7pm on Tuesday 8th February. While our focus after a two-year hiatus will be to work towards the Walkabout we all know and love, we are also—as ever—very open to new ideas.

Newcomers are particularly encouraged to get involved in this fun and sociable village weekend, which is a major fundraiser for the Village Hall, School, Church and local good causes. Offers of help, support and to take on responsibilities are always welcomed and most particularly in the areas of Heavy Gang, Signage, Car Parking and Village Hall Catering.

A Zoom link for the meeting will be sent to all current committee members nearer the time, but if anyone else would like to get involved or offer support, please email us at walkabout@fladburyvillage.co.uk.

Regards,

Steve Curtis & Ian Southcott (Co-chairs)

FLADBURY COMMUNITY ORCHARD & NATURE RESERVE 🍏

Jane writes:

January's Work Party

10 or 11 folk formed a work party on a very cold Saturday morning in January but hard work kept us warm. We removed several very old apple trees, allowing neighbouring trees to hopefully flourish. [Hmm, to boldy go, Ed.]

February's Work Party

The next Work Party is on Saturday morning 12 February from 10.30am to 12noon. All helpers welcome. We are hoping to prune and must complete it by the end of March. [That's one heck of a Work Party - longer than Lent!, Ed.] Please turn up or be in touch if you want to know more.

For those who don’t know

The Community Orchard was established some 12 years ago with the renovation of an old orchard alongside the railway line. Following the sale of several Christmas trees alongside the Orchard for a few years, the Nature Reserve was established. Over 40 households contribute £20 a year for maintenance of the Orchard and Nature Reserve. Others contribute with their work and knowledge. We encourage and conserve wildlife and biodiversity and we welcome new contributors of work or money or both. We hope to enjoy some social events again this year. Again, please be in touch if you want to know more.

Love Jane x

FLADBURY PIE SHOP 🥧

Sonia writes:

Just a brief note to keep you up-dated with Fladbury Pie Shop. We are delighted to say that Arran has now started trading as Fladbury Pie Shop Limited and that Simon has taken a step towards semi-retirement, but will still be very much around for the foreseeable future.

Rest assured that nothing much will change with regard to the recipes and the outstanding quality of produce that the shop turns out, other than increased product range. So keep your eyes open on social media platforms for new lines on a weekly basis.

Here's wishing both Arran and Simon all the best for their future success.
