🖐 Issue #29 | Tips to expand your network in 2022

Good morning,  I hope 2022 is treating you well so far.

If one of your resolutions for the new year sounded something like, "I want to expand my professional network," well, welcome to the club!
This week we have put together a few practical tips to start ( or keep) building professional relationships more effectively. Let us know what you think and if you ave any more that worked well for you!
  • 🌟 Focus on what you want to get from a new connection, things you'd like to learn, which sort of support you may be able to offer and the kind of people who could help you thrive. Starting from here, it's essential to create a network that is truly valuable to you!
  • ⌨️ Since the pandemic, virtual networking has become key. Don’t hesitate to ask professionals for advice and learning tips from their experience on LinkedIn  or via email. Connect with people who can benefit from you and vice versa.
  • 🖐 Follow up with your existing network, people you've worked with in the past, your uni mates, and those who have been already introduced to you to see how they are doing, what they are focusing on and whether grabbing a catch-up coffee could be useful. They may too in turn connect you with the right people.
  • 🎓 From a student POV, interact with students from other degree programmes and enquire whether they’d be interested in doing projects together. This helps you not only strengthen your resume but also meet new people with similar interests.
  • 📝 Keep an updated contact list (on whichever platform works best for you) with people's contact details, professions, company of reference, where/how you met etc.
  • 👩‍💻 Build a strong presence online so that, after you meet someone, you can redirect them to your website, portfolio, or social media pages to show your work.
  • 🥂 And ofc, join events! In particular, if they offer a networking sessions (even virtual ones can work well) or drinks/reception at the end - those are always the best opportunities to meet new people!
Happy  Sunday 🥰
