Winter Storm Preparedness in Response to Winter Storm Warning
NIAGARA FALLS, ON - Environment Canada has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Niagara Falls and the Niagara Region effective tonight through Monday evening. The forecasts for this event vary considerably in amounts and timing, but heavy snow will likely significantly impact the Monday morning commute.
City of Niagara Falls Municipal Works crews have been making preparations for the approaching forecasted snow storm throughout the weekend. Crews have conducted anti-icing operations on all designated routes, including arterial roads, bridge decks, hills and sidewalk routes, and are making final equipment preparations. Evening patrols will be conducted on designated routes and arterial roads to respond to any precipitation.
Residents can support the City’s winter storm response by:
- refraining from on street parking in order to allow plow equipment the room to clear snow
- keeping a safe distance from plow trucks to allow them to work safely
- postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If travel is necessary, check weather conditions, plan additional time and exercise caution.
