The Richmond Oval and SCBC are hosting a Speed Competition for athletes born in 2004 and earlier, and a selection competition for CEC Open Lead Nationals to be held at the Oval also, on February 19-20.
Because of some Covid restrictions in place in other provinces, CEC has decided to make their Lead and Speed events open to more competitors and left it to the provincial and territorial organizations (PTSO) to provide their request for quota, with the intention of accepting all requests. But, if interest is too high, CEC could ask the PTSOs to adjust their requests for the Lead competition. They have also made the decision to hold Speed Nationals for the Open category only and will announce the selection process for Youth Speed events in the near future. Open Speed Nationals will not have participation quotas.
We are fortunate to be in a position where we can run competitions. It has been decided to make participation in this event a requirement for all SCBC non-prequalified athletes who wish to be considered for participation in CEC Open Lead and/or Speed Nationals. At the time of publishing this information, all participants in our selection event who wish to participate in the National Championships would be able to do so. If we were required to reduce our number of SCBC participants, we would use the results from our January 29 selection event.
Athlete who are prequalified for Open Lead or Speed Nationals are welcome to participate.
Athletes who wish to apply for an exemption to this event for medical or scheduling reasons can do so by emailing athleterep@sportclimbingbc.ca
