Hi all!
I’m writing you this email from a new place and a new desk and a new chair!
Well, the chair is not so new. And come to think of it, the table and the apartment are quite old as well. Nevertheless, they are new to me!
Rita and I had been talking about moving somewhere temporarily - more than going on holidays, but less than moving abroad for real - and this apartment in Berlin came up, needing occupants for 3 months. So, here we are!
I was sick for the first few days, so I haven’t seen much more than the street where we live and various supermarkets. But now I’m feeling better and looking forward to exploring! If you have suggestions on things to see / eat / smell in Berlin, send them my way! :) (You can just answer this email directly.)
It was also strange to adapt to the new home. I lived in the same place in Porto for 5 years, and my house already has everything I need (and more), so it was odd to arrive at a very depleted apartment where there weren't some of the things I currently view as essentials for living comfortably: like drawers, and tea towels.
Yesterday I decided I couldn't live 3 months without an office chair and would buy one. But, just I stepped out of the building, I found one almost new, abandoned on the sidewalk. So maybe Berlin is looking out for me.
In the meantime, I haven't been doing much illustration work. Just setting everything up to apply for a Master degree. I'm trying to get accepted in a scholarship for an Erasmus Mundus master on Children's Literature, Media and Culture (It's such a long title). If, like me, you had never heard of an Erasmus Mundus MA before, well, it's simply a Master that is taught by different universities. So students move to a new country and school each semester. It will be both an exciting adventure and a logistical nightmare! Ahah!
Anyway, sending all the paperwork this week. *Fingers crossed*

Something more work-related: My online shop is closed while I'm away. It will reopen in April, but you can still find my prints and zines in a couple of places. Check out the list here!

(I just learned how to insert GIFs in newsletters. I'm sure I will abuse this newfound power.)
Aaaand, I’m doing another Escrivaninha this month. Would you like to join? If so, sign up here!
Hope you are having a good start of the year, and I'm looking forward to getting all your Berlin tips!

Tschüss,
Joana
