Training Webinar: Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Complaints Process
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) is the regulator of broadcasting in Ireland. One of their key functions is to monitor and enforce compliance of the licensed broadcasters with the broadcasting codes and rules as well as managing complaints regarding broadcast content on all Irish broadcasting services.
In January 2022, the BAI upheld a complaint made against RedFM’s Neil Prendeville Show for a segment it said could contribute to the stigmatisation of Travellers. The complaint was made by the Cork Traveller Women's Network and supported by ITM. Read more here

Housing & homelessness law training (FULLY BOOKED)
ITM are delighted to run a fully funded accommodation, housing & homelessness law training facilitated by Community Law & Mediation. This training is supported by the Community Foundation for Ireland.
The sessions will cover topics such as the rights of people who are experiencing homeless, how to tackle difficulties accessing the housing list or support those who have been excluded from the housing list, and evictions.
When: 26th and 27th of January, from 10-1 each day
There was a great response to this training and it is now fully booked up.
However given the demand we would like to try to run this training again later in the year. Please email accommodation@itmtrav.ie if you would be interested in availing of training like this in future.

ITM Strategic Plan
ITM and our members are developing our new Strategic Plan for 2022-2026. We're delighted that consultants Colette Kelleher and Kathleen O'Meara will work with us and our members in a collaborative process to develop this plan.
We look forward to reaching out to you all in the coming weeks to kickstart this process and appreciate your support.
ITM Training Network
ITM has established a Training Network for our members, which has been supported by the Wheel. We kicked off our training network with an initial meeting on 8th December to develop priority areas and ideas for the network in 2022. Members chose to focus initially on leadership and management training to support capacity building of Travellers within the organisations. The importance of accredited training was also highlighted.

Impact of Covid 19
The Traveller Accommodation Support Unit in the Department of Housing are gathering updates on how this Omicron wave is affecting Travellers and are there any additional needs arising in relation to accommodation.
ITM reached out to members to get input on this and are compiling a response, so that we can give them the most up to date information and advocate for further resources being assigned as required.
A Hidden Crisis: Traveller Homelessness in the Southeast
Cork-Kerry Regional Accommodation Working Group launched their report "A Hidden Crisis: Traveller Homelessness in the Southeast" yesterday. You can watch back the event here and read the full report here
The report highlights a number of key findings and recommendations, including the stark figures that 1 in 5 Travellers surveyed by them in 2018 were homeless, and this figure increased to 85% when a wider definition of homelessness that includes situations such as overcrowding called the ETHOS definition is applied.

Reduced school days - new guidelines
ITM had campaigned with both local and national Traveller organisations for the Department of Education to implement new guidelines for the use of reduced school days.
These new guidelines are now in place as of January 2022.
Workshop for ITM members on the new guidelines
ITM and TUSLA Education Support Services (TESS) are hosting an informal online information and discussion session on 25th January from 11am-1pm
We know that many Traveller children are affected by reduced school hours and welcome members to take this opportunity to learn more about the new guidlines, and raise concerns.

SEI Spark Session - Rescheduled for 10th Feb
Social Entrepreneurs Ireland have rescheduled their Spark Session with Thomas McCann of the Traveller Counselling Services, for 1-2pm on Thurs 10th February
This is a a free online session to learn more about coming up with ideas to solve problems that the Traveller community experience. They also have a toolkit to help you start acting on your idea that you might find useful.
