PAWS For The Latest

News & Events From Centre County PAWS

A Note From Our Executive Director

Rose Nylund the chihuahua with purple casts on her legs
Alaska the cat wears a soft cone and crawls on a volunteer's shoulder.
Dear <<First Name>>,

Thanks to you, we had a successful 2021. You helped PAWS
  • Find adoptive homes for 675 cats and 250 dogs
  • Spay or neuter 1,700 cats and dogs in and around Centre County
  • Accept over 200 cats and dogs into our care from surrounding shelters in need of assistance
  • Provide thousands of pounds of food to community pets
2022 started with the arrival of Rose Nylund, a 1-year-old, 5-pound Chihuahua, who was abandoned with two broken legs. We shared her story as part of the viral #BettyWhiteChallenge and have met our goal to fund her medical needs!

Additional donations made in honor of Betty White’s 100th birthday will go directly to our On the Mend Fund to help animals like Alaska, a sweet cat who is slowly healing from unresolved allergies and skin issues.

Many thanks,
Lisa Bahr
Executive Director

Beautiful Treasure, now Peanut, was adopted from PAWS back in 2014. She took a long time to find the right home, but boy did she wait for the right people. Her moms love her, and she loves them back. Peanut is now over 12 years old but still goes for regular runs!

Jetta had a very hard time living at PAWS, but thanks to her medical foster mom and a patient, loving forever mom, she is now living her best possible life. We got a Christmas card and the following wonderful update recently: “I was able to formally adopt her majesty, Queen Sarabi Hanahan (previously Jetta) from Centre County PAWS . Her majesty is the first cat I've ever had, and the first pet I've ever owned as an adult. She demands 100 brushies every day, yells at me at 6 a.m. for breakfast, and she is a Pisces. I can't wait to spoil her rotten for the rest of her golden years.”

Charles came to PAWS in May of 2016 in need of help. His skin was a red, sore and infected mess. We got right to work on clearing up his skin, and things only got better from there. Charles was adopted, changed his name to Charlie, and left that itchy skin life completely behind.

Charlie's family checked in recently because he celebrated his 10th birthday on Christmas Day! They said, "We don't know what his puppy-hood was like, but I can guarantee you he is a spoiled old man! He's never been one for toys, but give him a fuzzy blanket and the couch, and he's down for the count – snores and all!"

Help from Home

With COVID case numbers surging, PAWS has returned to by-appointment for adoptions. We’re still here to help, though, and you can help from home too!

Current Needs List - You can help from home by shopping from our list of most needed and essential items from our Chewy Wishlist and Amazon Wishlist. We are currently in need, specifically, of paper towels, bleach, snuggle safes, and HE laundry detergent.

Leave a Review for PAWS - One easy yet highly impactful way to help PAWS is by sharing a review. Consider adding your feedback on Google, the most common way people search for PAWS. An increase in online reviews and, of course, a high star rating drives more people to us for adoption and for assistance with their pet(s). If you have any questions about just how to leave a review, feel free to reach out to our marketing team.

Join the PAWS Monthly Giving Program - Members of the PAWS Monthly Giving Program are incredibly important to PAWS. Enrolled donors automatically send a donation to PAWS each month. It’s just like your Netflix account, except the subscription is for saving lives! By providing a recurring donation, you fund critical veterinary expenses, essential supplies, and, most importantly, the security of knowing we can open our doors to even the neediest of animals.

Save Those Boxes - So you signed up for Amazon Smile, ordered some gifts, and now have a bunch of boxes. We may be able to use those boxes at PAWS! We love to have medium-sized boxes (16x12x8) for the cats’ cages. They provide some hiding places as well as vertical space for climbing and perching.
