JANUARY 2022

Well, it’s January – a time of fresh starts. Still, it feels like we’re stuck in a strange echo chamber, where things are not terribly different than last year. Members of our team are out sick or stuck at home in quarantine. Those who aren’t are struggling to strike the balance between staying safe and living. Even for an optimist like me, it's been hard to stay positive (while trying to avoid a “positive” test!).

A colleague recently shared her approach to New Year’s resolutions and it really resonated with me – each January she resolves to ADD things to her life, like “more vegetables with meals” or “more activities that bring joy,” rather than the typical “no more late dinners” or “cut down on social media.” This perspective inspired me, so even though I’m not one for resolutions, I'm committing to some additions right now…

As a leader, I am going to bring more empathy and compassion to my work, because I know it’s what my team and clients needs right now. And to make sure I have it to give, I’m going to give myself more compassion and take time to recharge.

What are YOU doing to make sure you have the capacity to support your teams? How are you looking after your mental wellbeing as your well of positivity runs dry? What can you ADD to your life and workplace? This month’s Inkwell has some helpful ideas and resources…read on!

In good health,
