PROGRAM INFORMATION:
Alaska Native and American Indian people have historically been underrepresented among researchers and health scientists. There is a need for Western-trained researchers to be culturally aware, respectful and responsive in meeting the diverse health needs of Indigenous communities.

PROGRAM GOAL:
The goal of Alaska Indigenous Research Program is to increase the health research capacity of Alaska Native/American Indian people and communities by providing Indigenous-centered, cross-cultural research education and internships.

CHOOSE YOUR PROGRAM EXPERIENCE:
  • Week One - Advanced Research - May 2-6 - Designed for experienced researchers and health professionals
  • Week Two - Research Ethics - May 9-13 - Designed for all levels of research experience
  • Week Three - Introductory Research - May 16-20 - Designed for those interested in health research.
PROGRAM EXTRAS:
Breakfast and lunch provided - Travel scholarships available - College and development credits - Internships available (March 23-July 29)

VIRTUAL 2022 MEGAGENOMICS WORKSHOP - Jan 31 - Feb 4, 2022
Learn how to use the UNIX command line, analytical workflows and public tools to independently analyze sequencing data plus how to visualize and render data using graphing tools. This workshop covers 16S community profiling and whole genome meta-genomics/transcriptomics analysis. Sponsored by NCGR and New Mexico INBRE. More information. Applications are due January 25th.

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE SCIENTISTS IN PARKS (SIP) FELLOWS PROGRAM - Now accepting applications from current upper-level undergraduate and graduate students for summer 2022 opportunities. Visit the ESA website for more information.

ADVANCING ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH EQUITY THROUGH IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE

RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERGRADUATES - SHANNON POINT MARINE CENTER (Western Washington University) - June 13-Aug 12, 2022
The Shannon Point Marine Center's (SPMC) Research Experiences for Undergraduates program will support guided, independent research on the part of 8 undergraduates in 2022. Particiipants will spend nine weeks at SPMC conducting original research with a faculty adviser, participating in professional development activities, and participating in outreach events. Research themes may include productivity and nutrient cycling in marine environments, microbial ecology, molecular ecology and genomics, ecology and physiology of seagrasses and algae, larval development and physiology, environmental toxicology, coastal oceanography, and coastal geology. Student support includes a $5,400 stipend plus a $75/week food allowance, travel allowance, and housing at SPMC for the nine-week session. COLLABORATIVE SEQUENCING/BIOINFORMATICS PILOT AWARD - Call for Proposals
The New Mexico IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (NM-INBRE) Sequencing and Bioinformatics Core invites you to apply for a pilot project award valued at approximately $5k-$10k to drive your research, publications and grants. Requires co-contribution from non-NM-INBRE investigators. Proposal deadline - 2nd Sunday of each month by 11:59 pm. Details and how to apply.
