On Saturday, January 1, 2022 the Hillsboro Fire department responded to an apartment complex fire that displaced 17 people from their homes on East Main Street in Hillsboro.  It was said that a TriMet bus was diverted to provide temporary shelter and warmth, with temperatures hovering below freezing that morning.  Along with the American Red Cross, City of Hillsboro, Hillsboro Community Foundation, Greater Than organization with Hillsboro School District, Centro Cultural, and Bienestar, Family Promise of Greater Washington County responded to assist those evacuated.

Currently, we are sheltering 15 people impacted by this crisis, and providing gift cards for food and basic essentials.  Even more significantly, our professional and caring staff are providing individual case management to help navigate the obstacles one faces after losing everything in a devastating fire.

With your support, Family Promise of Greater Washington County is equipped to respond to the life-saving needs of our community members impacted by emergency crises.  Your gift brings immediate and invaluable purpose to our mission.

VOLUNTEERS MAKE EVERY DIME COUNT

Family Promise of Greater Washington County volunteers finds a safe and sustainable way to support our mission.  For the past year, Barb Upson, co-founder of Family Promise of Beaverton and Faith Café; Jon Schlueter (Jonathan the Can Man) of Bethel United Church of Christ; and Sr. Rita Watkins, SSMO -Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, have volunteered by collecting, packaging and delivering numerous specially-labeled bags of bottles and cans to the BottleDrop recycling depot all in support of families suffering homelessness in our local communities.

With the support of community partners, Barb, Jon, and Sr. Rita have led this honorable project that realized a donation of more than $8,000 from over 70,000 beverage containers all in support of Family Promise in 2021.  This team’s dedication and industriousness certainly exemplify what it takes to make every dime count.

Thank you, Sr. Rita, Barb, and Jonathan the Can Man!  We are grateful for the time you have so graciously shared with our Family Promise community.  Your support not only benefits our environment but has made a meaningful difference in the lives of the families we serve.
