Principal's Message
Sea Lion Families,
Today as a nation, we pause to honor and reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his continuing impact on civil rights and human rights for all. Each year, I enjoy highlighting some of his powerful orations. Last year, I shared with you my personal favorite of Dr. King's speeches, "What Is Your Life's Blueprint?" However, I also greatly appreciate the speech Dr. King delivered on April 14, 1967, at Stanford University's Memorial Auditorium.
In this speech, Dr. King emphasized the strength of our nation as having the opportunity to address social inequalities. As we all struggle with the challenges of COVID-19, the opportunities for addressing inequalities have never been more prevalent, particularly in education. Although COVID-19 has magnified the fragility of traditional educational systems, it has also highlighted educators' strength and resolve to address inequities.
McGaugh’s teachers, staff, and community work to create an inclusive instructional environment that prepares students to live healthy and happy lives regardless of their neurological differences, their gender, their home language or culture, their economic background, their race, or their faith.
An inclusive learning environment supports what we value most as parents, protecting and promoting the potential of all children to experience living a successful life. Today and always, we want to provide this for our Sea Lions. In this way, we continue to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luthe King Jr.
There's a bit of my reflection and how Dr. King's life continues to impact us here at McGaugh. I hope you enjoyed the holiday.

Fundraisers
Project SEEK is hosting a two super delicious, totally virtual fundraisers to help fund our art, STEM and media classes at McGaugh.
Thursday, 1/20-Monday, 1/24, Project SEEK will be hosting "POP" up shops to sell gourmet popcorn. Now I know what your'e thinking, "gourmet"(insert eye roll). But I promise this popcorn is delicious. It's popped fresh, in small batches, that ship immediately, 7-10 days from order date. The perfect Valentine’s gift or Super Bowl Party snack!
Project SEEK will receive 50% of all proceeds to fund our art, innovation/STEM, and media lab. In addition, there is an option to donate the popcorn, if decadence is not a part of your new year's resolutions.
Starting Thursday, 1/20, click on our class pop-up shop link (your class parent should have shared the link with you, ask them for it), and buy everything that sounds delicious. You can also share the link with friends and family so they can enjoy. Even out-of-town family.
The shop will only be open from 1/20-1/24. The class that sells the most popcorn will receive a free recess! So let's get poppin'!!!

If Popcorn isn’t your thing, take advantage of Project SEEK’s other fundraiser with See’s Candy! The perfect Valentine’s gift for yourself (and loved ones, I guess). Project SEEK will receive a portion of the profits to go towards our yearly fundraising goal, so we can fund our art, STEM and media classes and McGaugh.
Make sure you forward both fundraising links to your friends and family. It’s the perfect way for out-of-town loved ones to support your child’s art, STEM and media learning.
