A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

Greetings,

The year ahead will see important opportunities to deepen the impact of the business and human rights agenda across key policy domains from climate to migration to development - and to make human rights due diligence more central to business decision making from corporate boardrooms to the investment community and beyond. Momentum on the social dimension of climate action must also be strengthened in the run up to COP27.

Look out for big announcements to come from us on just transitions, the built environment, oceans, and more. Until then, dip into our Top 10  for 2022 to get our forecast of the key business and human rights issues for the year ahead.

2022 marks ten years since the launch of the Dhaka Principles, a framework for migration with dignity. IHRB and special guests will be reflecting all year on each of the 12 Principles, progress achieved, and obstacles remaining. We hope you enjoy the first two features spotlighted below.

This year also brings big changes to our team, with our Deputy CEO Frances House stepping down from her current position, but thankfully staying with us as a senior advisor. Since IHRB's founding in 2009, Frances's strategic insights, management, and leadership have shaped the Institute into what we are today. She is a one-of-a-kind thought leader and we all at IHRB are grateful for the good fortune to have her as a colleague and friend.

Our best wishes for a healthy and productive new year.

John Morrison
CEO, IHRB

THE DHAKA PRINCIPLES AT 10

Launched in 2012, the Dhaka Principles for Migration with Dignity are a set of human rights-based principles to enhance respect for the rights of migrant workers from the moment of recruitment, during overseas employment, and through to further employment or safe return to home countries. Each month a special guest will be reflecting on one of the 12 Principles.

In January, IHRB's Neill Wilkins looks back on the context in which they were created and their uptake to date, while IHRB's Guna Subramaniam reflects on Core Principle A and the current state of play for migrant workers' right to non-discrimination today.
