Artlink’s exhibitions support all visual art media and include both ‘emergent’ and ‘established’ artists based locally, nationally and internationally. It seeks out innovation at home, distinctive and inspiring work from further afield. The programme is curated through invited projects, those undertaken in partnership with other organisations, and those selected or developed from open submissions.
The Solo Exhibition Open Call provides emerging and under-recognized artists the necessary resources to present an exhibition at Artlink in 2022/23. The exhibition program is open to artists working in all disciplines. Proposals should demonstrate how the artist will challenge and test their practice and how it might be relevant to this place.
The selected artists will receive valuable mentoring support from Artlink's Creative Leadership Team, technical support and installation guidance in preparing the exhibition and exhibition professional documentation. In addition, exhibiting artists each receive a fee of 500 euros and an essay written by an invited writer.
ELIGIBILITY
Artlink’s Solo Exhibition Open Call is for artists who:
Have not had a solo show within the last three years
Are not currently enrolled in a degree program
Demonstrate a consistent arts practice outside of an academic setting for at least two years
Currently live and work in the Republic of Ireland
GUIDELINES
Proposals should include the following information:
Name and contact details, including e-mail (and website if applicable)
Biography – a brief summary of previous experience, exhibitions, commissions, publications, etc (max 200 words)
A brief description of what you propose to exhibit (max 500 words)
A brief statement outlining how it would benefit your practice, how the artist will challenge and test their practice and how it is relevant to this place (max 200 words)
Images of your work – this should not exceed 6 images of previous work and 6 images of the proposed work (if already made).
Preferred dates for exhibition
A preferred way of submission is to collate all the information onto a single pdf document.
Please note: please ensure that e-mailed images are no larger than 2MB each.
Do not send proposals by post as we do not have the capacity to return materials.

Cultivating a New Rhythm
As we emerge from this pandemic, Artlink want to nurture a new rhythm; a new way of working, a new routine, which :
• is informed by the Celtic Agrarian Calendar to reconnect us with natural rhythms , the seasons, the tides, the place where we are
• acknowledges our unique position as a frontier and our relationship with the border on this island as we witness the transition through Brexit
• is informed by the learned, seasonal practices of Artlink’s international partners in Newfoundland, Iceland and Norway
• embraces the importance of planning times of inactivity as well as activity
• listens to the natural rhythms; slowing down and reflecting more before moving on
• questions Artlink's programmes; asking, does this programme really help us to nurture artists or just tie people down in activity for activity’s sake?
• values and appreciates creative processes and indeterminacy
