The TGRR team welcomes you to submit an abstract to the Transboundary Groundwater Resiliency Through Collaborative Models with Hydrology, Data, Systems, and Social Sciences session being featured in the Frontiers in Hydrology: Future of Water conference being held on June 19-24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and online.

Primary Section Focus: Simulating complex systems
Unprecedented international groundwater depletion is intensified for the world’s transboundary aquifers, which serve as vital, shared resources for countries with distinctive scientific understandings and management approaches. This project asks: Why is transboundary groundwater depletion happening and how do we change it? Despite previous attempts to understand this fundamental question, it remains largely unanswered. We believe that identifying key data and systemic drivers would make significant progress towards answering this question and producing research that catalyzes transformative change for transboundary groundwater systems. Our NSF-funded Transboundary Groundwater Resiliency Research (TGRR) Network posits that new, international collaboration is needed to connect hydrology, social science, data science, and systems science networks to achieve a resilient water future. 

This session will focus on research from around the world that advances data-driven system dynamics modeling of transboundary groundwater systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
  • Resilient adaptation to climate change impacts on shared groundwater
  • Research that contributes to simulating the complexities of transboundary water systems 
  • Coupled human and natural water systems
  • Data-driven water research 
  • Data science + transboundary water science for social good
  • Simulation modeling (agent-based, system dynamics, network analysis) for transboundary water research
  • Participatory, stakeholder-driven simulation modeling for transboundary water research

To submit an abstract to accompany one or more of the topics above, you will need to sign into your AGU account, or create an account here. Once you sign into your account, click the button below to begin the submission process.  You will be asked to provide your abstract submission details (e.g. title, how you would like to present (virtually or in-person), guidelines, etc.). There is a non-refundable fee involved with submitting, and more information can be found here.
