Virtual: Drinks with the Director

Why is THAT Famous?!?

Thursday, January 20, 2022
6 pm via Zoom and Facebook Live

Just in time for the new year, we're bringing back one of our most popular, interactive virtual programs: Drinks with the Director: Why is THAT Famous?!?

Grab some popcorn (and your favorite drink, of course) and join us on Facebook Live or via Zoom on January 20, 2022 at 6 pm with Dr. Alex Rich, Executive Director and Chief Curator, and his knowledgeable guests, Dr. Kristen Carter, Assistant Professor of Art History at Florida Southern College; Holly Scoggins, Professor of Art at Polk State College; and Andrew Coombs, Professor of Ceramics at Polk State College! During the program, the panel will offer their hot-takes on which works are truly worthy of their fame (and which aren't), what each work means within the history of art, and why people may be so intrigued by them.

Through the Eyes of Nan Liu

On view January 8 - May 8, 2022

In this two gallery, two-part installation, Nan Liu, a Chinese-American professor at Florida A&M University (FAMU), brings to his art an intriguing and intricate mix of his cultural and professional past and present — what he sees and what he knows. Born in Tianjin, China, in 1974, Nan Liu is an artist of a realist bent — and at the core of realist art is observation of one’s immediate world and the people who inhabit it.
