FAIR data solutions to support a global observing system of marine ecological time series
Feb. 24, 3:00 pm, Room 1
Join us at this Town Hall Meeting to learn more about a new NSF EarthCube-funded Research Coordination Network for Marine Ecological Time Series (METS-RCN) tasked with bringing together members of the oceanographic, data science, and informatics communities to build consensus on key components of a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) (Wilkinson, 2016) data model for METS, including common vocabularies, metadata reporting standards, and data citation practices; engage broader METS data users (e.g., modelers, educators, decision makers) to facilitate broader applications of METS data; and build community capacity for METS data analysis, statistical methods, and data-model integration. This town hall meeting will also highlight a concurrent EuroSea-funded project led by members of the RCN leadership team focused on developing a pilot biogeochemical time series data product to help visualize spatial patterns and trends across ocean basins.

US SOLAS Science Plan release
In October 2019, OCB convened a workshop for US-based scientists working at the air-sea interface to identify research priorities and facilitate the communication and collaboration required for future significant research advances. Leadership for this workshop was provided by the Ocean Atmosphere Interaction Committee (OAIC). Emerging from the discussions at the workshop is a new US SOLAS Science Plan to help coalesce the air-sea interaction research community around a common set of science goals and research priorities and foster a more cohesive US contribution to international SOLAS.

Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Biogeochemical Sensor Data Working Group Update
The OOI Biogeochemical Sensor Data Working Group was recently established to develop guidelines and best practices for using OOI biogeochemical sensor data in order to broaden users and applications of these data and build community capacity to produce analysis-ready data products. The working group has been convening regular virtual meetings since July 2021, and members are currently developing explicit recommendations for four sensor subgroups: Dissolved oxygen, inorganic carbon parameters, biooptics, and nitrate. These recommendations will be reviewed and shared more broadly in 2022. In early spring 2022, we will circulate an application to identify ~15-20 current or prospective OOI biogeochemical sensor data users (in addition to the working group members) to join a workshop in Woods Hole on June 16-18, 2022, which is the week before the annual Ocean Carbon & Biogeochemistry (OCB) summer workshop. We will continue to share information about this Working Group and its products and activities via OCB and OOI communication channels and platforms. The Working Group leaders will also present an update on products and progress at the upcoming OOIFB Town Hall Meeting at OSM22 on Feb. 25 at 12 pm EST (Room 3)).
