How AFP is working to counter misinformation

Rachel Blundy, Acting Head of AFP Fact Check (Asia Pacific), will talk about the launch of the news agency’s digital verification service in France and how it has grown from its inception in 2017 to become the leading global fact-checking organisation. It includes over 120 journalists covering more than 80 countries. This seminar is organised by the School's Fact Check Service. Registration details.

Civic Tech: An Asian Perspective
Friday, 28 January, 12:30–2:00 p.m. on Zoom
 

Weiyu Zhang of the National University of Singapore will speak about how Civic Technology is attracting increasing attention from academia and how it has emerged as an interdisciplinary field spanning various disciplines such as social science, political science, and computer science. She will introduce three cases of civic tech development in Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan. Details.

China and the Future of the Internet

The School of Communication and Film at HKBU is hosting the 19th Chinese Internet Research Conference, the signature event of China internet scholars, from 23–24 May 2022 in Hong Kong and online. The cooperation, competition, confrontation, and convergence of the Chinese model with other models will have a critical role in shaping the future of the internet. This conference will explore ethics, information, crisis management, government-citizen relationship, participation, and lifestyle to data technologies, digital diplomacy, internet laws, information ecologies, cyber governance, and other issues.
