Happy February all,

Thanks to everyone who was able to tune in and testify on behalf of the wilds, water, and air in front of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission last month. Your words go a long way.

Winter is a time to reflect on what has passed and plan for what is to come, and we are all busy planning fun and necessary conservation projects that will need volunteers - stay tuned, we’ll be releasing our project schedule soon. We are also reflecting on the work we did in 2021. Look in your mailboxes for our Tater Heap 2021 Annual Report next month. And RSVP for our 2022 Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday March 20th, 2022. While you are waiting, celebrate Black leaders in the environmental movement in honor of Black History Month with us (we'll be sharing what we're learning on our social media and blog this month).

As you are scribbling out Valentine’s Day cards consider sending a love note to someone who has been a conservation champion. We’ll be sending ones out to our Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet who helped secure billions to clean up and cap orphaned and abandoned wells in Colorado.

Here’s hoping everyone is able to get out and enjoy this place that we live.

For the love of the land,

Tanya Henderson
Executive Director

UPCOMING EVENTS
We had an excellent start to our Winter Speaker Series last week with Emily Latta sharing her work with bat monitoring at the BLM. We hope you can join for our next talk online on February 24th at 6:00pm with Peter Goble! Peter is a research associate at the Colorado Climate Center, and will discuss climate and water in the Rocky Mountain headwaters.

This Winter Speaker Series is in collaboration with The Learning Council and Delta Libraries. The series will feature one speaker a month on a variety of environmental topics. Our January and February speaker events are virtual due to Covid-19 concerns.

Are you interested in leading a Mike’s Hike this year? Mike's Hikes is one of our most popular outreach programs, featuring volunteer-led hikes and a variety of natural and cultural history topics in many priority conservation areas. We are looking for volunteers who want to take the next step up from being a participant on a hike, or who have a great idea for a hike they could lead for our 2022 season. Please fill out the form below if you’d like to lead a hike!

Become a 2022 River Watch Community Scientist
Did you know that WSCC is the only organization that regularly monitors water quality on the North Fork of the Gunnison? For over 20 years we’ve been part of River Watch, a statewide program that monitors watershed health.
If you like hands-on community science, consider joining our 2022 River Watch team! Our dedicated volunteers go out every three months to take water samples and analyze them back in a lab. Volunteering for River Watch is a great way to get outside, learn about water quality metrics and contribute to the safety of our community by making sure our river stays healthy. Find our more by visiting our website or click the link below to sign up!

We are always looking for more voices on WSCC's Volunteer Committees! Our committees are critical to the success of our programs, organization, community, and environment. We meet once a month - email info@theconservationcenter.org for more information.

Thank You Volunteers!

January was a quiet month for volunteer activities at the office. However, we’ve been keeping busy planning for the next season!

Haven't joined us as a volunteer yet, but want to? Click the button below to sign up for future opportunities.
