NEWS: SLOCOG to Host Webinars on the 2045 Transportation Plan this Wednesday

Join SLOCOG Staff on Wednesday, February 9th!
San Luis Obispo, Calif. (February 7, 2022) – San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) staff have been working hard to deliver a long-term framework for transportation and land use that will provide a vision for accommodating growth in the San Luis Obispo Region through 2045, and they want to include you in the process. The 2023 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) will help shape the region’s quality of life and environment for decades to come. Right now, SLOCOG is offering four ways to engage, including two webinars and two online tools.

The webinar aimed at the general public — Planning for Transportation through 2045 — will share the many aspects of what goes into this long-range plan while involving you in the process, obtaining feedback, and answering questions. Planning a vision for 2045 takes input from everyone! To receive details for joining this Zoom webinar on Wednesday, February 9 at 6:15pm, please register here.

An additional webinar — the Environmental Scoping Meeting — will be more technical and aimed specifically at the environmental review document associated with the 2023 RTP and its Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS). Previously, the agency prepared a Programmatic Environmental Impact Report for the 2019 RTP-SCS. The type of environmental document that moves forward will depend on the extent of changes proposed. This meeting is an opportunity for agencies and interested members of the public to obtain information, ask questions, and provide comments on the scope and content of the document. To receive details for joining this Zoom webinar on Wednesday, February 9 at 5:30pm, please register here.

Finally, SLOCOG has two online tools available at slocog.org/engage to collect input from the public. The Interactive Map tool allows you to drop pins where you think transportation improvements are needed—and lets you see where others have dropped pins and ‘like’ those, too! These pins include recommended improvements by members of the public, SLOCOG, and local agencies. The Budget Challenge gives you the power to provide valuable feedback on how and where transportation dollars should be spent, as our region will not receive enough funding to cover it all. Take the challenge and share your funding priorities in each of the following broad categories: highways, streets, & roads; transit; and active transportation, safety, & livable communities.
