Team leads! Team Co-Leads! Ignite! is looking for YOU!
Do you want to lead a procession? Help organize events, experiences, and fun at the hub of Combustia? Or provide calm and peace for your fellow Combustians? We are looking for YOU to help with the following teams:
Leads:
Illuminaughty lights the night with dramatic flair! Please join our mysterious, masked procession as we hang lanterns to illuminate the land of Ignite!
Center Camp is the name of the central pavilion at SpiritHaven, the heart of Combustia. At different times the pavilion is many things from logistics hub, playform meeting place, the town hall, and/or art gallery or performance venue.
Sparks Scouts help organize activities for burners under the age of 18 where they will learn about the 11 principles as well as how to become a successful burner (pitch tents, cook, build fires, learn flow or other arts, etc.). We will help these wee ones participate fully while creating a network of safe, empowered non-adult burners.
VIPS - we keep yo' Playforms strong! Playforms are one of the things that make Ignite! so unique and you can be part of making that magic happen! Shift duties will include: checking in with Playform hosts, hanging out at the VIPS station and answering questions about Playforms and whatever else comes up, and touring Combustia all town crier style letting folks know what Playforms are coming up. VIPS also assists with volunteer shifts - making the community aware of needs, and helping people to sign up on-site.
Co-Leads:
We have various teams that are looking for additional support. If you are looking to dip a toe or two into managing a team but want to learn the ropes and see if this is a good fit for you, a co-lead position is a great place to start.

Interested in a different team? Let us know in the form! Have questions about these teams or others? Email us at ipa@ignite-burn.com
2022 Art Grant Applications are Open!
Calling All Artists!!!
Hello Combustizans! Burn season is finally upon us, and we know you all have notebooks full of the great art ideas you’ve been collecting for the past 2 years, and are just itching to bring to a burn. Lucky for you, Applications for Art Grants for Ignite! 2022 are now OPEN!!
We will be accepting applications from now until February 25th. This year, we have $3,200 to distribute to artists chosen by our Art Jury. Anyone can apply for an art grant; you don't have to be a professional or even consider yourself an artist. We want YOU to make something to share! This is an all ages opportunity. If under age 18, the individual must have an adult sponsor that is, or is approved by, their parent or guardian.
For detailed instructions and application, go to https://ignite-burn.com/art/effigy-and-art-grants/. It is important to read the requirements thoroughly. You will need to submit a budget, concept images, a timeline for completion, and an elevator pitch. The applications are reviewed anonymously, and voted on by a jury of volunteer community members. Be as descriptive as possible so the Art Jury will really be able to envision the art or project you want to share.
If you have questions, please email artgrants@ignite-burn.com.
Playform Registration
Do you have a hobby, skill, or weird talent to share? Maybe you developed a new passion during quarantine? If so, think about hosting a playform and help Combustia learn while it burns! You don’t have to be an expert; just have some knowledge and a passion for whatever you share.
The first 30 hosts get a dedicated ticket code to purchase a ticket! This guarantees you a ticket and frees up tickets for others!
What's a Playform?
Playforms are a major part of what makes Ignite! such a special burn, and they only work if YOU make them and participate. A playform is a platform for playful learning - a way for our community members to come together and share knowledge, experiences, skills, and ideas. Playforms can be an art form or craft, a skill you’ve developed, experiences with burns you think others would find valuable, or just a time to discuss a topic you love. Playforms usually take place at one of our designated playgrounds located around the property.
What is Not a Playform?
Dance parties, happy hours, giving out food, showing movies, etc. are theme camp events not playforms. Those take place in theme camps. We love and encourage events as well, as they are part of what makes our burn fun. If you’ve exceptionally planned ahead, you can go ahead and use the same form to register your theme camp event, but don’t worry there will be other reminders as we get closer.
Playforms and Kids
Anyone can host a playform, and we would love to see more playforms created by young burners. Hosting a playform is a great way for kids to become more involved in creating their burn, and a great way to meet fellow burners. What would the children in your life like to share with the community? Sign up today!
We can't wait to Learn 'n' Burn with you! Please follow this link to fill out the form.
Ignite! is now using Discord
That’s right, we’ve set up our own Discord server and will be using that platform for relaying information, community engagement, volunteer team information distribution, and general tom foolery. You can join our Discord using this link:
https://bit.ly/IgniteBurnDiscord
Discord is available, for free, on a mobile platform of your choice, on a PC via an application install, or right in your browser with nothing to install. Signing up is free and doesn’t require tons of personal information.
Don’t worry, we’ll still keep the facebook page and group around, but will reduce our engagement there. Why? Because of the lack of control facebook gives for the community, the constant advertisements, its general inefficiency, and we just don’t like being so beholden to that corporation.
Why Discord? Many reasons actually, here’s just a few:
-
More control via dedicated chat channels for specific topics (like volunteer teams)
-
Voice and video chat built right in for groups and individuals
-
Easier to moderate, pin important info, see historical posts, and just all around better for readability
-
You can use your favorite burn name or nickname
-
We control the content, not some faceless facebook moderation algorithm
-
Better user roles and permission handling
-
No constant advertisements every 4th post
-
It’s free and easy to use on any platform (Mobile, PC, or in a browser)
-
User level control of notifications on a per channel basis
-
Threads! Private or public side conversations that don’t have to bog down the main channels
So hop on over to our discord channel using the link above! When you first join you’ll need to read the community rules in the “Community-Rules” channel, and then give the rules a thumbs up to show you agree. Once you’ve done that all the channels are open to you! Say Hi! Set up notifications as you see fit, chat about topics in appropriate channels, and generally enjoy a better managed space for our burn community.
Also, don’t forget, we are still figuring out how to best build community space. Do you have thoughts or ideas for our Discord? Channels we should create? Ways to better use our space? Let us know (in discord) and we’ll see what we can do. We want to make the space accessible and usable for everyone for productive discussion and memes and foolishness too.
