February 2022

Greetings! Welcome to the fabulous month of February. I typically call it “Febrrrrrrrrary” since it’s generally one of the coldest months of the year. Thus far, our winter has been fairly mild so we’ll see what happens. This month is also marked by two great holidays—Groundhog Day (February 2nd) and Superbowl Sunday (February 13th)—for the record I’m rooting for an early arrival of spring and the Cincinnati Bengals. You thought I was going to say Valentine’s Day. Yes, the holiday that celebrates love is this celebrated this month as well! You can read more about our ‘Sweetheart Supper” hosted by Heath & Kinsey Senkel in this month’s newsletter.

I’m excited to announce that the Houchin family (Colby, Aleah, Ledger, & Jorvik) is here and getting settled into their new home in Scottsbluff. Colby has officially begun his ministry as our Pastor of Youth & Family LIfe. Please continue to pray for them as they adjust to a new city, new addition to their family (Jorvik), new church family, and new ministry.

We are growing as a church family! Please take the opportunity on Sunday mornings to warmly greet the new families who are worshipping with us. If you see a new face, don’t hesitate to introduce yourself so they will feel welcome. You can even ask them to sit with you in your favorite spot. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could go sit with them in their favorite spot.

I’m looking forward to seeing God to a mighty work in and through us as a church family. In a month that celebrates love, may our hearts be overwhelmed by God’s love for us, and may we “live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave Himself up for us (Ephesians 5:2).

I love you and am praying for you!

Pastor Jeff

Each Wednesday night, before AWANA club begins, the leaders and their families are served a simple dinner. This helps ease the burden on our leaders and is a tremendous blessing! Would you consider being part of that blessing? Volunteering to prepare a meal 1-2 times over the next 3 months, would be wonderful for many! 🥰 You can read more details and SIGN UP by clicking here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a054eadac2dabfb6-awana

THE BIG MOVE!

Our Pastor of Youth and Family Life, Colby Houchin and his family, have arrived in town and we look forward to getting them better in the months ahead! There were many people who helped with the move. We especially are grateful for Jim Stolen, Mick Groskopf, Kevin Kaufman Isaac Holbrook, Lee Griebe and Pastor Jeff for making the trip to Rapid City to help load up trailers! There many others who stopped by the house to help unload and bring food. What an awesome church family! We didn't get everybody, but here is pic of most who were there:

GOOD FOOD, GREAT CONNECTIONS, LOTS OF FUN!

Last month's Chili and Cinnamon Roll Cook-off and Game Night was a splendid night for our church family. We had a terific turnout and saw some new faces, too! Thanks for all who participated to make the night enjoyable by bringing food or bringing games. A SPECIAL THANKS to Heath and Kinsey Senkel who organized the event.. We missed all who wanted to come, but were unable. Here are some pics of the night!

Each month we highlight missionaries that Monument supports. Please take some time to learn more about them!  An encouraging email, phone call, or letter would surely be appreciated, too!

Ethnos 360
Stephen and Amber Clement

Stephen and Amber Clement with their family are our missionary partners serving with Ethnos 360 (formerly New Tribes Missions).    They are currently on furlough from Brazil and are living in Waxhaw, North Carolina, close to Amber’s parents.  Isaque is six years old and in kindergarten.  He is an extremely sociable young man.  His playdate with one of his friends gave Amber and Stephen an opportunity to “have a great conversation with the other family.”  Four year old Laila and soon-to-be three year old Jesse are “learning how to play with each other without having to be entertained.  It may seem like a small deal but that’s big!”

Stephen says, “We came back from the field in September because of Amber’s health issues.  The doctor thinks the most likely cause is because of parasites that did damage to her digestive system.  She’s been on various antiparasitic (medications).”  Amber seems to improve some, and then Stephen and Amber consider returning to Brazil.  Then there will be a setback.  Currently, Amber is on antibiotics.  Our “prayer is still that Amber would recover and that we will be able to head back to Brazil.”

“When we were over in Brazil, we knew what we were to do—evangelize the lost.  When we were on furlough once again, we knew what to do—raise support and evangelize.  Whereas evangelism is still on our heart and constantly will be, things aren’t as clear as what we should do during this time right now.  Please be praying that the Lord would give us wisdom that we might know how to serve Him even when we don’t know ‘what to do.’ ”

Please pray for Clement family.  A note of encouragement can be sent to stephen_clement@ntm.org or amber_clement@ntm.org.  The Clement’s address is 5805 Davis Road, Waxhaw, NC  28173.  Stephen is a younger brother of our own Mike Clement.
