Chigamik Board of Directors Announce New Executive Director

The Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Suzanne Marchand as the new Executive Director of Chigamik.
|
|
|
Suzanne has 15 years of experience working at various community organizations in a bilingual, senior leadership capacity. Most recently Suzanne held the position of Vice President of Human Resources at Kerry’s Place Autism Services where she led a team of 16 human resources professionals and provided executive support and direction to the senior leadership team. Throughout her working career, Suzanne sat on various community-focused Board of Directors and committees. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University, an Industrial Relations Certificate and an advanced Human Resources Certificate from Queens University.
The Board of Directors would also like to thank Jessica North, who held the position of Interim Executive Director over the past six months. She is a valued member of the Chigamik team and the Board thanks her for her dedication and support to the organization.

As cases of Omicron continue to rise in Canada and across the globe, we would like to provide you with an important update regarding our current COVID-19 protocols and

the measures we’re taking to try to minimize the impacts on our day-to-day operations. As always, our top priority is the health and wellbeing of our clients, staff and community members. Our offices continue to remain open, however, we’ve taken measures to ensure that our staff work remotely whenever possible, and for those who need to be in our offices, work in a safe environment. Over the next few weeks, our goal is to continue to maintain a high level of service to our clients and community while minimizing the impacts of Omicron on our Centre.

Covid-19 Vaccination Clinics

Chigamik has continued to support ongoing Covid-19 immunization efforts throughout the fall and winter months, responding to an urgent “all hands on deck” call for supports throughout the months of December and January, in particular. The Chigamik team has administered thousands of Covid-19 vaccines for Chigamik clients and members of our broader community at numerous large scale community clinics in both Midland and Penetanguishene, community pop-up clinics, as well as in-clinic immunizations at Chigamik.

Chigamik is Offering Single Session Mental Health Counselling
|
|
|
Chigamik is now offering FREE appointment-based single-session counselling for anyone living in North Simcoe Muskoka. Single-session counselling refers to a single 60-minute session. These appointments are intended to help individuals identify their immediate needs.
Using a therapeutic approach, our therapists offer guidance and support to help clients think about things differently, focus on their personal strengths and goals, and connect them with other community supports, if needed. For many clients, a single-session appointment is just what they need to take action towards making that next step on a path towards change.

Thank you to our community for supporting Chigamik's GivingTuesday campaign. Through donations and volunteer support, we were able to provide families in North Simcoe with 'ready to cook' meals for the holiday! A BIG thank you goes out to our staff for helping to organize this event and our community partners – Askennonia Seniors Centre, Angels with Backpacks, Belleroots Farm, Borsa, Farm2Door, Foodland Midland, Georgian Bay Métis Council, Graffiti Art, LA Farms, Midland Fire Department, Mary and Ray Nason and Le Villageois – for their generous donations. Welcome New Staff to Chigamik!

Heather Cusson
Indigenous Perinatal Mental Health Counsellor
|
|
|
|
We are pleased to welcome Healther to the role of Indigenous Perinatal Mental Healh Counsellor at Chigamik! In this role, Heather works with First Nation, Métis and Inuit mothers in North Simcoe Muskoka who may be planning a pregnancy, are currently pregnant, have recently had a baby, or have experienced a loss during this time. The program works with clients and the medicine wheel as they travel along their journey into parenthood, providing the support and resources needed for good physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Calley Monague
Doula, Biidaaban Doula Collective

Calley is a mum of two with a passion for birth work. She is of Métis descent and grew up in Simcoe County. After embarking on her own
|
|
|
|
journey through fertility, birth and postpartum, she began her educational career in birth work. Calley holds an Honours Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and completed Maternal Support Practitioner Training through Bebomia, with additional training in Fertility and Infant Sleep. She looks forward to continuing to expand her knowledge to assist families embarking on their own journeys. When she's not supporting her clients, you can find Calley enjoying time with her children and husband. She loves being outdoors and enjoying the earth's energy!

Katie Hamelin
Doula, Biidaaban Doula Collective

Katie is a Métis Doula who has recently joined the Biidaaban Doula Collective at Chigamik! Katie has a passion for helping mothers feel empowered by finding
|
|
|
their voices and trusting their intuition to make informed decisions about their body and baby before, during and after birth. It is her goal to have mothers look back on their birth experience as a positive story where they felt supported culturally, emotionally, mentally and physically.
On her spare time Katie enjoys spending the day with her husband and two children on the waters of Georgian Bay.
