Hello all, here's the news.

City Council Updates

The Screening Panel for evaluating City Manager candidates has been appointed, and the Manager job description posted. The panel comprises Councilors Sideris, Bays & Piccirilli, 2 residents and 2 employees:

  • Felicia Sullivan is a mom of two elementary-aged kids, lawyer, and Director of Labor & Employee Relations at CHA; she is a leader of Watertown Community for Black Lives and the Watertown Unity Breakfast
  • Dan D'Amico, of District A, is a first-generation American who works as a data analyst; he recently ran for Councilor-at-Large, has been coaching soccer in Watertown for 15 years, and started his own soccer club in 2017
  • Acting Deputy City Manager Steve Magoon
  • Superintendent of Schools Dede Galdston
Close to 100 residents & employees attended our City Manager Forum and close to 400 residents & employees gave input through our brief survey which you can still take. Your input will help us during the process.

Restaurants will soon be able to serve alcohol on Sunday mornings with brunch. The Council approved an amendment to our Rules & Regs allowing establishments that serve food to apply for a license to serve alcohol between 10 am and noon.

City Government Updates

Watertown is updating our Comprehensive Plan and needs 3 residents to serve on a Planning Advisory Committee. The update, expected to take about a year, will focus intensively on:

  • land use,
  • economic development,
  • transportation, circulation and parking, and
  • open space and recreation
Community engagement is critical. Our goal is that the resident members reflect the following makeup:
  • One person with expertise on transportation issues
  • Two persons from under-represented populations within the community, including (but not limited to) minority, non-native English speaking community members, families with children, younger adults, and shift workers
