Love, celebration and good eats!

It’s the month of love and there is nothing I love more than celebrating with great food and honoring those who paved the way by introducing delicious recipes.

This month we are celebrating Black Culture and History with some dishes that will make your mouth water.

But first, let me drop a little culinary knowledge on you.  Did you know, what we know as mac n’ cheese was introduced to the US by the first French-trained African American Chef, ever? And blacked-eyed peas originated in West Africa.

Now, let’s get into some recipes honoring black history that I know you’re going to love.

Who can resist my Cajun Gumbo Mac ‘n’ Cheese!  Everyone that I’ve made it for fell in love with the spicy flavor and the extra creaminess…it’s a party in your mouth all by itself!
How about this unexpected twist on black-eyed peas… Black-eyed Pea and Kale Soup. I love the layers of flavor..smoky, and salty. So delicious and comforting. Almost tastes too good to be as healthy as it is.
Lastly, there’s always room for dessert! Give my Mandazi (African Fried Donuts) a try. Mandazi is a form of fried bread  originated on the Swahili Coast and very similar to New Orleans style beignets. Donut lovers, frequently booking flights for some NOLA eats..this one’s for you. I promise you’ll love ‘em! And you can make them yourself in under 30 minutes!

Let’s celebrate love with these unexpected twists on well known dishes!
