Greetings from Aillio

Welcome to the Year of the Tiger. Let's all hope it proves auspicious for coffee lovers. :)

Now that we're back from our holiday break, here is what we've been up to.

AiO Parts Arriving!

Whenever a new shipment of AiO parts lands here in Taipei, you will soon find Jonas attacking the package like a child opening gifts on Christmas day. So far, so good -- the build quality has been excellent all-around.

For instance, if you could hold the part pictured above in your hand, you would feel how heavy -- and sturdy -- the knobs for the AiO really are. They lock into the machine via a 3D magnetic encoder. If you don't know what that means, don't worry. I leave that stuff up to the engineers, too.

(Don't forget to come tweak the AiO's knobs in person at the SCA in Boston in April, as well as the World of Coffee in Warsaw in June!)

Interviews with the Lillie Brothers

Our head of PR Jacob Juul sat down with the twins behind Aillio so that they could share their personal stories with the world.

Topics include the early days of the company, the development of the Bullet, illegal wine-fueled sax performances on the streets of Paris, and a not-too-distant future world dominated by malevolent coffee robots. Check the links to read more!

Ask Rob Hoos: Small-batch Roasting on the Bullet

We've had small-batch roasting on our minds for awhile, now. We know that there is still some confusion out there about how the Bullet handles batches lower than 350g, so we want to provide some clarity.

With that in mind, we reached out to professional consultant (and Bullet-user) Rob Hoos about his experiences roasting smaller batch sizes on the Bullet. He's been working on some techniques for roasting as little as 150g at a time, and is happy to share some of his own thoughts about using the Bullet as a sample roaster, and on the value in sampling/profiling roasts in general.

That's why we want to give you an opportunity to Ask Rob Hoos!

Shoot us your questions about small-batch roasting -- whether on the Bullet specifically, or general questions about sample roasting and roast profiling. We'll be listening at outreach@aillio.com -- and we'll pick the best questions and answer them to the best of our ability in a future newsletter, with Rob's help, of course.

That's all for now, everyone. Keep drinking great coffee.
