This year’s Local Council Elections take place on Thursday 5 May. Local elections are your chance to have your say about the issues that matter to you in your local area, and to choose who represents your immediate community.
Everybody has a voice, and local elections are one of your best opportunities to make it count! If you are not already registered to vote, you must do so by Thursday 14 April to vote in these elections. It takes less than five minutes.
Please also be aware that ward boundaries have changed. You can view a map of the new ward boundaries online. You can also download maps for each individual ward on our website.

Proposed budget set to transform services and support most vulnerable

We have recently published our proposed budget for 2022-23. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts on the draft plan. We have listened to your feedback and will use it to shape future services and priorities. The proposals set out how we will continue to provide the essential support our most vulnerable residents rely on, while meeting the financial pressures from the Covid-19 pandemic and lack of government funding.

The draft budget for 2022/23 will now be discussed at the council’s strategic committees, before being finalised at Budget Council on 1 March. Read more on our website.

Join our State of the Borough Debate

Our annual State of the Borough debate will take place on Tuesday 22 March, 7-9pm.
This year’s theme will be ‘Covid impact and recovery’, which will include discussions on how the borough came together in response to the pandemic and how the community and the economy are recovering.

Exciting steps forward in making Kingston
safer, cleaner and greener
|

As part of the council’s ambitious action plan to tackle climate change, we’re taking steps to ensure our streets are safer, cleaner and greener.
We’re helping keep families safe at the school gates by limiting vehicle access during pick ups and drop off times by introducing School Streets. This year we have already approved a new permanent School Street in Chessington, quickly followed by two more permanent School Streets in Kingston.
Kingston Town neighbourhood has also recently benefited from safer, quieter travel, as the Albert Road Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme was also made permanent. Surbiton is seeing the rollout of a 20mph speed limit across the neighbourhood, creating safer streets for the whole community.

Try Before You Bike
If you’d like to get cycling but aren’t sure where to start, take a look at the Try Before You Bike scheme. It lets you try out a new, or nearly new bike for a small monthly fee.
There are a range of bikes available for all ages and abilities, including adapted cycles, cargo bikes and e-cargo bikes. You’ll also be covered for repairs and services for the first three months, and be given an overview of the bike and equipment by a cycling expert when it’s delivered to you.
