From Mario’s desk...
The word recovery is on everyone’s lips after the impact of Covid, and reality are not everyone will be able to recover at the same pace. Children have lost 1,3 years of learning due to Covid. The million-dollar question will we ever make up lost time?
Our reach in 2021 was 2682 across 5 schools and we added the biggest primary school in Heideveld to our program, Willows Primary have 1800 learners.
We are aware of the work that lies ahead of us and we rearing to go.

Getting ready for the year ahead!
We started the year of with refresher training across all our programs, the training ran from 17 -26 January.

The Difference Maker!
With the heatwave we have experience in January we decided to make sandwiches for our summer menu. Too hot for soup!
The sandwiches will be handed out to primary school learners at the end of the day as they leave to go home. The reality is that not all children have a meal to look forward to in the evenings, which is why we've called it #TheDifferenceMaker - having something to eat at home could prevent a child from begging or being out late looking for food.

Where do it get prepared?
The sandwiches are prepared at our Mother City Kitchen.
Who prepare it?
We have identified staff in our exciting GCU program and boys who are unemployed who plays for our semi pro team Goal50 to prepare the sandwiches.

When does it get delivered?
We start preparing at 9am and deliver at 12pm just before the foundation phase goes home.
We have prepared 3000 sandwiches in the 1st week, 1000 a day from Tuesday to Thursday.
We would like to add fruit and hopefully a bottle of water in the future, but for now, we're focused on getting as many sandwiches as possible to needed schools.
