UNY I-Corps recently offered its second Ag-Corps cohort, an NSF I-Corps regional course for innovators focused on developing impactful technologies within the agriculture space. Eight research teams participated in the hybrid course, which began virtually in December, and then shifted to an in-person format at the 2022 American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Annual Convention & Trade Show in Atlanta, Georgia (January 7-9). Ascribe Bioscience and WeRadiate Named 2021 Grow-NY Winners

Ascribe Bioscience and WeRadiate, two I-Corps alumni startups, took home prizes — $500K and $250K, respectively — at the 2021 Grow-NY Food & Agriculture Competition in November 2021. Closing out its third year, Grow-NY is the premier food and ag business competition in New York State, annually awarding $3 million in prize money to innovative startups with the potential to make a significant positive economic impact on the region. Instructor Spotlight: Deborah Streeter
Deborah Streeter has played an instrumental role in instructing regional I-Corps courses and mentoring startup teams through the UNY I-Corps Node. In her former role as the Sr. Professor Emeritus of Personal Enterprise and Small Business Management at the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and in her current role as the Faculty Director of the Bank of America Institute for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Cornell University, Streeter has shared her expertise in entrepreneurship, digital media, and women in leadership.

Instructor Spotlight: Stephen Sauer
Educator and entrepreneur Stephen Sauer really knows how to talk — and how to listen. As an I-Corps instructor, he's helping other scientists learn how doing both will help them understand who needs their technology solution and why. Sauer is a senior lecturer and Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at Cornell University’s S.C. Johnson College of Business, where he focuses on issues of leadership, entrepreneurship, team process, and diversity in management. He also serves as an EIR for Rev: Ithaca Startup Works and Cornell’s College of Engineering.

In the 4.5 week virtual I-Corps regional courses, researchers working on a deep tech innovation will have the opportunity to “get out of their comfort zone” and talk with customers (virtually) to identify the best product-market fit. Applicants may apply with a team of 1-3 people.

Join Kirk Macolini, President of InteliSpark, LLC for this virtual workshop providing insight into the SBIR and STTR application process and how to find other non-dilutive funding sources. During the live workshop, Macolini will discuss and answer questions regarding:
- How to approach writing a successful SBIR proposal
- Strategies for submitting a successful proposal
- SBIR/STTR Assistance Program which can help eligible companies, based in upstate New York, hire a qualified grant writing consultant to help them develop a proposal.
After registering, participants will receive access to the SBIR/STTR video series, a set of short videos containing valuable background information, which they are encouraged to review prior to the workshop.

NSF is currently accepting applications for national I-Corps Teams Spring 2022 cohorts. Spaces for this program fill up quickly, so interested research teams should apply now! I-Corps Teams is an intensive seven-week innovation and entrepreneurship training course with mentoring and up to $50,000 in NSF funding.
Spring 2022 cohorts will be held virtually. No travel is expected. Participants should plan to conduct interviews by phone or video conference. For more information, reach out to Shannon Ellis at sts63@cornell.edu.
