Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please join us for our PAC meeting tonight, at 6:00 p.m., in the cafeteria. We will be making plans for our students fun activities this spring. We need your ideas so please join us.
Happy Catholic Schools Week. We have been busy already this week celebrating our parishes and our communities. Today we celebrate our Nation with classroom lessons and discussions. Tomorrow we will celebrate our students, parents, guardians and volunteers with ice cream for all students and coffee and donuts for our parents, guardians and volunteers at morning drop off.
Thursday and Friday's events, Celebrating Vocations and Celebrating Faculty and Staff, will be postponed until next week due to the chance of school closure because of weather. Last January and February we had quite the weather in Temple. We have been lucky this year but we may have a storm coming on Thursday that could affect our school day. The forecast is calling for freezing rain and possible snow. Our concern is the safety of all who travel. If we find that we need to cancel school or call a late start, we will use Remind first and then email. If you are not signed up for Remind please do. The directions are located below. We will be in line with Holy Trinity High School. If you hear no news, school will continue as normal.
Winter NWEA testing begins next Monday, February 7th. To review, NWEA MAP Growth testing is for grades K-8. The test is administered in the Fall, Winter and Spring.
MAP Growth measures what students know and what they don’t know, regardless of their grade level. This helps teachers adjust their instruction for each student. It also measures growth over time, allowing you to track your student’s progress throughout the school year and across multiple years.
Students in Grades K and 1 will test in Reading and Math (with headphones) while students in grades 2-8 will test in Reading, Math, Language Usage and Science. There is a great deal of information for parents. Please visit the Family Toolkit site to learn more.
https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/
Our testing window is February 7th through the 25th. Once all testing is complete we will send home test results.
The Spring Conference (Feb. 9th) sign up listings are now available on the website. Please take the time to sign up for a chance to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress and areas of needed growth. These conferences are not mandatory but are recommended. Teachers will reach out to the parents who they feel must attend. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Have a blessed week.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wyles

Chocolate Raffle
Thank you to all those who have been participating in our World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser, but we still have plenty of chocolate left.
For every box of chocolate sold, your name will be entered into a drawing to win one of three holiday themed raffle baskets!
Themes will include:
- Mardi Gras Basket
- Easter Basket
- Summertime Basket
This fundraiser is not mandatory but a great way to help support the school. All proceeds from the sale go to our general operating fund. This is also one of two major fundraisers to help those who received tuition assistance fulfill their obligation of helping refill that fund.
Stop by the office to check out your boxes!

Save these Dates and Help us Spread the Good News at all Masses
We know that word of mouth is the best advertiser there is. So as we begin 2022, we will be spreading the good news of St. Mary’s to families who are seeking quality Catholic Education in the Classical Tradition. We ask for your help.
Father Kurtis will be sharing the good news of St. Mary’s to the parishioners of our neighboring parishes. He is asking, as are we, for help from our parents, faculty and staff, grandparents and students to help him share this good news.
-
February 5th and 6th at Christ the King Church in Belton
-
February 12th and 13th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Temple
-
February 26th and 27th at St. Luke Church in Temple
Please let Ms. Giannotti know where/when you can help (mgiannotti@stmarys-temple.org). It is very important that we share with others the opportunity to join our family.

PSIA News
We are so excited to host this year’s District 6A Meet at St. Mary’s. The meet will be on our campus on Saturday, March 26th. Because we are the host school, there will be much preparation above and beyond the coaching aspects. I will be asking for parent volunteers and hope that you will help us create a successful event. Coaches will be asked to submit final names at the end of January. Please ensure your student is attending practices and completing assigned work.

Classroom Spotlight: This week is 6th Grade
Earth Science- Galaxies
To reinforce the study of galaxies, 6th grade students turned to their creativity. Each student chose either a spiral, elliptical or irregular galaxy and used provided materials to make their own galaxy. They used cotton balls to represent the gas and dust found in a galaxy, glitter for the stars and pom poms for the planets. The students came up with their own unique name for their galaxy and a planet or two. The students then wrote a paragraph describing their galaxy and what makes it unique.
