Plan, Design, Develop, and Implement Videos for Your ClassDuring the past few semesters, many Georgia Tech faculty incorporated videos in their teaching in order to support their students’ learning. Some faculty used video to engage students with specific ideas, some used videos as a way of introducing new topics, and others used video to record lectures so that students could review course concepts at their own pace.

As we move forward, faculty are now considering what role video might play in the semesters ahead. For instance, if we want to record lectures to use later, is there something we should do to protect students’ identity? What are other possibilities for using video in a course—and what resources are available to support your efforts? If you’re interested in learning more, join your colleagues for our four-part workshop series "Plan, Design, Develop & Implement Videos for Your Class." You’ll get the chance to gather ideas, explore new video concepts, tour the new Teaching Studio in the Library, and develop a video to use in your course.

Georgia Tech Library's Teaching Studio and Media Recording Studio offers state-of-the-art lecture recording space and tools, including a video studio with a green screen and black screen, a lightboard, a vocal booth, and a self-serve video-capture space. In addition, to support collaboration activities, the studio provides meeting rooms and small group discussion spaces.

You can attend all parts or join just the ones you are able to.

Day 1: Planning the Design & Implementation of Your Videos

Time: 11 am – 12:30 pm EDT, Tuesday February 8th

Location: Virtual via BlueJeans

When you create videos for your class, there are many factors to consider. What topics do you want to develop? What is your timeline? What elements do you want to include in the video? What resources are available to support your efforts?

In this workshop, we will discuss strategies you can use to analyze your needs. We’ll explore different visual elements, instructional activities, and content structure of videos. Finally, we will examine the implementation of videos, including where to publish them and the instructional activities surrounding the videos. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a better understanding of what goes into the creation of quality video content and have developed an idea for a video of their own that they wish to further develop in other workshop sessions.
Day 2: Create a Storyboard for Your Videos

Time: 11 am – 12:30 pm EDT, Thursday February 24th

Location: Virtual via BlueJeans or Georgia Tech Library Classroom 4160*
*(This session may move from hybrid to fully virtual)

Already have a great idea for your video, but not sure how to get started making your vision a reality?  This is the workshop for you!

In this workshop, we will move to the actual design of your video. We’ll learn about storyboarding; why it’s important and how to get started.  You will choose a topic for your video, connect it with your learning objectives, and then create a storyboard for it. We’ll consider what visual elements, instructional activities, and content structure you want to use and learn how to incorporate them into the storyboard. By the end of the workshop, you will be prepared for the next step in video development and closer to making your video a reality.
Day 3: Get to Know the Teaching Studio and Multimedia Scholarship Space
Time: 11 am – 12:30 pm EDT, Tuesday March 8th

Location: Georgia Tech Library 4th floor Teaching Studio and Greenscreen studio

Whether you want to record your PowerPoint presentation, record an interview, or capture a demonstration with subject matter experts, the Teaching Studio has the right space and tools for you. Join this tour and learn what types of videos you can develop with the Video Capture Space and the Greenscreen Studio—then learn how to use this technology, as well.
Day 4: Develop a Video for Your Class

Time: 1 pm – 5 pm EDT, Tuesday April 5th

Location: Georgia Tech Library Teaching Studio/Greenscreen Studio

Now that you have chosen your video elements and have a basic storyboard, it is time to develop your video!
In preparation for this workshop, facilitators will send out a sign-up link for each participant to choose one-time slot and one location (either Capture Space or the Greenscreen Studio). With guidance from on-site experts, you will get an opportunity to learn by doing, as you record a video and learn basic editing and production techniques. You can create a video from scratch or use existing media with editing techniques.

Facilitators invite participants to pair up and work together on a project if they so wish.
