Time is running out!

Dear <<First Name>>,

If you were thinking about applying for funding from the Centre’s Community-Based Tenant Initiative for 2021-22, don’t wait for the last minute. Call us NOW so that we can help you get started on your application.

The CBTI fund’s purpose is to help transform *tenants from customers or service recipients into active participants in the housing world. We strive to support the creation of opportunities where tenants can organize to develop or advocate for more and better community housing, to participate in governance and in developing housing programs, and to help create new policies that take residents’ needs, hopes and rights into consideration.

* The term “tenant” includes current and potential tenants, members of cooperative housing, members of Indigenous communities and unhoused individuals seeking tenancy.

The CBTI fund doesn’t just cover traditional tenant engagement activities. For example, the fund helped an Indigenous community in Kamloops, B.C., bring together elders and at-risk youth.  The result is a 31-unit, culturally safe, supported and affordable housing complex that is home to First Nation, Métis and Inuit youth transitioning from the child welfare system to more independent living.

The fund has also supported a Québec City group in its fight to improve resources and accommodations for inclusive housing in that city. CAPVISH (the French acronym for Action committee of people living with disabilities) is creating an inventory of available accessible housing, conducting a door-to-door survey, and mobilizing the community through podcasts and coffee meetings, among other activities.

The funding level depends on the nature of the project submitted, but can go as high as $150,000. To see the full range of activities eligible for CBTI funding, explore our complete information package, then give us a call to see how we can help.

To get funding for the 2021-22 fiscal year (ending March 31), you should get started now. Unlike most funding organizations, the Centre’s program managers actively work with potential applicants to ensure the best chance of having your grant application accepted. We want you to take advantage of our expertise, so give us a call today:
