New Job Opportunity:

St Augustine’s Centre are looking for a Family and Community Support Manager to start in February 2022, 22.5 hours per week.

This is a new, temporary role working with a group of recently arrived families and individuals seeking asylum who are living together in temporary accommodation. They come from a range of countries including Afghanistan, Syria, Russia, Kurdistan, Iran, Iraq, Eritrea, Bangladesh and Sudan. They are a community of about 100 people, most of whom have only just met. Though they have access to food and accommodation, many have no English, no income and are not permitted to work which means they have incredibly limited resources or ability to integrate locally.

We are looking for someone who can get to know this community well, understand their range of needs and respond with a programme of appropriate activities and access to our welfare and immigration services.

Share widely with your networks and act fast, applications close Monday!

Show Your Hearts this Valentine's Day.

We’re using Valentine’s Day to call on MPs to get behind the two amendments and to send a strong signal to Ministers. Please support this by presenting or sending a card to your MP that shows the strength of local support for a more compassionate approach to refugees. The card calls on MPs to take action, suggesting three simple things they can do to support our amendments. Here are some ideas on the Valentine's Card with a twist and suggested text for your card here.

You can find even more ideas on how to support this campaign (including custom Valentine's images designed with Calderdale Valley of Sanctuary) on our website.

Bra-Fitting with a Difference.

Thanks to the expertise of Anon Lingerie and their team, plus the generosity of the community, we held a fantastic bra-fitting event for about 50 women and teen girls living in temporary accommodation. They also brought proper foot-measuring tools and fit around 40 children with quality shoes.

We are also grateful to Lucy's Little Bakehouse for providing sweet treats and Toiletries Amnesty for amazing high-quality makeup kits.

Creating Opportunities through Physical Activity.

Sport really can change the lives of asylum seekers and refugees - check out this fantastic new video featuring our Integration Co-ordinator Adrian to learn more about the work we've been doing with The Cricket Asylum and Active Calderdale.
