Young & Gifted Internship Recipient Named

We’re so excited to share that local high school student Olivia Anderson has been named the first recipient of the Young and Gifted Internship created by Maria C. Young at Asheville Community Theatre. Olivia will work alongside Maria throughout the process of taking Maria’s play Transition from the page to the stage. Welcome Olivia!

Audition for The Giver! Director Michael Jorizzo seeks a cast of at least 9 to bring this adaptation of Lois Lowry's Newbery Award winning novel to life! Character ages range from 7 years old to older adult. We do have copies of the script available to check out from our Box Office if you'd like to read the script in advance! Or, if you just want to see the sides (pages from the script that the director has picked out for auditionees to read) - they're posted on our website!

Elwood P. Dowd is a charming and eccentric man who insists on including his best friend Harvey in family dinners, social events, theatre outings and more. The only issue is that Harvey is an invisible six foot tall white rabbit that only Elwood can see and hear! Elwood's sister Veta attempts to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium, but her plans go awry. And in the end, well - you'll just have to see the play to know how it ends!
Harvey is a Pulitzer Prize winning comedy by Mary Chase that will be performed as readers theatre by The Autumn Players. Friday and Saturday performances are on the ACT Mainstage; Sunday's performance is at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNC Asheville.
Harvey is directed by Marianne Lyon and stars Mike Vaniman, LuAnn Bolnick, Barbara Blomberg, Kermit Brown, Margaret Crowell, Terry Darakjy, Charlie St. Clair, Jerre Bolnick, Walter Goodrich, Margaret Crowell, and Earl Leininger.

Registration Opens Tuesday, February 8
Our Youth Production Classes offer youth theatrical instruction from the first audition to the last curtain call! We will be offering TWO sessions of The Giver – one session for middle school students and one session for high school students. Classes will meet afterschool, and each session will end with two performances on the Mainstage!

What goes on behind the scenes? In this course, students learn the ins and outs of technical theatre and backstage work, including safety, basic light and sound board operation, and stage management. Students will then put their skills to practice by covering technical and backstage roles during Youth Production Class performances of The Giver.
