News from Pastor Kim
2/2/22
Greetings Friends!
Steve and I are back from our winter vacation - just in time to "enjoy" the snow here! Even though we were not able to go south, it was nice to get away for a bit. We we were able to connect with some cousins and just relax and unplug.
I was able to watch the January 30 worship service once it was uploaded and I was encouraged by the stories told and the Scriptures shared. Thank you to all that shared your stories, I look forward to having this kind of service again. Thank you, too, to Dorothy and Jim for leading this wonderful service. You are true servants of God. Oh, and if you didn't guess already, the verse on the front of the bulletin is one of my faves!
Throughout the rest of the newsletter you'll find the up to date happenings at Hope and Welcome Corners as well as prayer requests, birthdays (Mary Fuller has a big one coming up) and anniversaries (Terry and June Miles have a big one coming up), a mission moment with Family Promise, and multiple ways you can be the church in our communities.
Love God! Love Others! The End!
~Pastor Kim
You ~typically~ have three opportunities to worship with us each week:
9am Sunday - Welcome Corners: 3185 N M-43 Hwy, Hastings
11am Sunday - Hope: 2920 S M-37 Hwy, Hastings
Online - Facebook and YouTube: Hastings Hope UMC
"This is my prayer: that your love might become even more and more rich with knowledge and all kinds of insight. I pray this so that you will be able to decide what really matters and so you will be sincere and blameless on the day of Christ. I pray that you will then be filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes from Jesus Christ, in order to give glory and praise to God."
Philippians 1:9-11 CEB

The Good News Gang
Pastor Kim and/or her gang of pastor friends record weekly video podcasts where they discuss hot topics, cool topics, and everything in between. Tune in at the YouTube link below and be sure to subscribe while you're there!
The link to all of the episodes:
https://tinyurl.com/Good-News-Gang
The episode recorded 2/2/22 will premiere on 2/3/22 at 5pm. Pastors Curtis, Matt W, and Kim talk about all things internet. Pope Francis said in 2014, “The internet offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity. This is something truly good, a gift from God.” Do you agree? Tune in and leave us a comment!
YouTube Playlists
Pastor Kim is again curating playlists and will house them on Hope's YouTube channel. To see what songs are hitting her in the feels this week check out our YouTube channel and be sure to SUBSCRIBE while you're there!
This week the playlist includes a TED talk that we watched in Homiletics class recently. It speaks to the importance of ALL of us telling our stories and the dangers of listening to just one story.

Vacation Worship
While I love being a pastor and serving at Hope and Welcome Corners Churches, I do miss being able to worship with Steve. We took the opportunity to worship "at" our home church, Redeemer-DeWitt/St.Johns, over the weekend. We were on our couch, and not in a pew, but it was still nice to worship together. Pastor Debbie's message is a good complement to the one I preached on January 9. You can take a listen at the link below.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Tuesday February 8 (and every Tuesday): Community Meal at Green Street Church at 5pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with others in the community for a meal and short worship. Each week's menu items are typically posted by early afternoon in the calendar entry on Hope's calendar. You can access the calendar here:

If the churches need to close in person worship due to weather we will advertise on WOODTV8 and on Facebook. There will still be online worship in some form.
During the week we will primarily advertise through Facebook and word of mouth. If the Hastings schools are closed due to weather, the church building will also be closed to all activities.
(Family Promise will make their own announcements regarding closure and won't necessarily follow this same guideline.)

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Family Promise of Barry County (FPBC) is a community response to family homelessness and is a local affiliate of a national organization. The Day Center and offices of FPBC are housed on the second floor of Hope's Christian Ed building. FPBC provides temporary housing in host churches, mentoring, and connections with other community resources to develop permanent solutions to struggles with housing. Pastor Kim has been involved with FPBC almost since her first day in Hastings in July 2017 and has been officially on the Board of Directors since May 2018.
There was a moratorium on evictions throughout much of this pandemic time, but the need for our services did not diminish. Our staff has mentored graduate families and assisted others with finding resources so that they could stay in their existing homes.
We are excited about the events that are coming up in the months ahead. Some of them will be listed below, check our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/fpbarrycounty) and website (https://www.bcfamilypromise.org/) for more information on how you can get involved.
Saturday March 5: Adult Prom - Freeport Community Center

Invite your sweetie or come stag, here's your chance to dress up and have fun while raising money for a good cause!

Saturday June 25: 2nd Annual Golf Outing with Great Golf Ball Drop
https://fb.me/e/2oWHXZeVa
Our first golf outing in 2021 set the standard of what a fun golf outing looks like for all skill levels and we're seeking to make it even better! A thousand golf balls falling out of a helicopter is a sight that must be experienced in person and if your ball is the one closest to the pin, you're the winner - no skill required!

Laura Munro - Vice President & Interim Executive Director

Hope Church has supported five missionary families through our FAITH PROMISE giving for many years. Any monies received by the church that indicate they are for FAITH PROMISE are sent to our supported missionaries monthly. On behalf of our missionaries we thank you for continuing to give to FAITH PROMISE!
In addition to the FAITH PROMISE missionaries, we support a young woman, Faustine (Ghana), through World Vision and a child, Chandu (India), through Child Fund. Donations to these missions should be noted as World Vision or Child Fund on the offering envelope or on the “other” line when giving electronically.
