Our work to update the Ontario Accord and renew our sector’s commitment to GIPA/MEPA is underway!
Over the past few weeks, the OAN's Advisory Committee of People Living with HIV has been holding focus groups for our members and Ontario’s community of people living with HIV. But we want to hear from everyone.
Have Your Say in the Ontario Accord Survey
If participating in a focus group is not right for you, tell us what you think by completing the Ontario Accord Survey. This is your opportunity to share your thoughts, have your say and help create the next Ontario Accord. Complete the survey by following the link below, and enter to win a prize. |
|
|
Complete the Survey and Enter to Win a Prize!
We’re giving away three prizes in each of our four regions (Central, West, East, North). Anyone who participates in the survey can enter to win a draw for one of three Everything Card gift cards valued at $300, $200, $100 each.
See EverythingCard.ca for a list of stores.
Note: The draw is open only to residents of Ontario.
What About Confidentiality? Do I have to Use My Name?
To protect your privacy and confidentiality, you will NOT be asked to provide your name in the survey or to register for the prize draw. You will only be asked to provide an email address.
Questions?
Send your questions by email to Tara Jewal at tjewal@oan.red.
About the Ontario Accord and GIPA/MEPA
Created in 2011/12, The Ontario Accord is a set of principles and values that centre MEPA and GIPA (the meaningful engagement of people living with HIV/AIDS, and the greater involvement of people living with HIV /AIDS) in the work of Ontario’s HIV/AIDS sector.
The Ontario Accord on GIPA/MEPA, outlines six action points regarding the engagement of people living with HIV in the HIV/AIDS organizations that serve them.
A new Accord will be launched early in 2022. |

ACT is seeking community members interested in serving on its volunteer Board of Directors.
ACT works to reduce new HIV infections in Toronto and promotes the independence, dignity, health and well-being of people living with HIV and AIDS and those at increased risk of HIV. Founded in 1983 – as the AIDS Committee of Toronto, today ACT had grown to be Canada’s leading and largest HIV service organization.
ACT is committed to equity at all levels of the organization and has, as one of its core commitments, the greater and meaningful engagement of people living with HIV and AIDS. ACT encourages members of our priority populations – people living with HIV, cis and trans gay/bi/queer men, cis and trans women, cis and trans young people, members of diverse ethno-racial communities and members of Indigenous communities – to apply and self-identify.
ACT Board members commit to attend eight meetings in a year and are expected to participate in at least one board committee. These committees are Finance, Leadership and Governance, Philanthropy and Stewardship, and Pension. The monthly commitment for a board member can vary, but on an average is between 4-6 hours per month.

Information about COVID-19 and People living with HIV
|
|
-
January 31, the Province of Ontario began to lift public health restrictions related to COVID-19 once more. Indoor dining, gyms, retailers, shopping malls, and cinemas can reopen at 50% capacity. Museums, galleries, aquariums, zoos, casinos, bingo halls and other gaming establishments can also reopen. Social gathering limits will increase to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.
As a reminder, enhanced proof of vaccination and other requirements continue to apply in existing settings. This means ensuring that you’ve gotten your booster shot, and can demonstrate proof of vaccination with a QR code. If you’ve yet to download your vaccine certificate, you can do it on this Province of Ontario website.
This is a welcome change for small businesses who have been long-suffering and deeply impacted by rolling lockdowns. When you are shopping and dining in the coming weeks, I encourage you to consider shopping locally and supporting small businesses.
