Alternative home quarantine facilities open in Port Augusta

In response to the growing need for COVID-19 quarantine accommodation in regional areas, the Port Augusta Regional COVID Accommodation Support Centre opened this week to support COVID positive people and close contacts.

Until recently, people were transported to Adelaide for quarantine and care. Now, people can stay closer to Country and receive care and support.

The Centre provides regular testing for close contacts and symptom monitoring for people with COVID-19. Translators and cultural navigators are also available to help throughout their stay.

More sites are being prepared with in-depth consultation from Aboriginal leaders and health services to ensure they are culturally appropriate and respond to guest needs.

Update: COVID-19 outbreaks in Aboriginal communities

In the last week, over 600 Aboriginal South Australians tested positive to COVID-19. Current outbreak locations include:
  • Adelaide metro
  • Raukkan
  • Murray Bridge
  • Port Augusta
  • Davenport
  • Gerard
  • Port Lincoln
  • APY Lands
  • Ceduna/Koonibba
With widespread outbreaks across most regional communities and Adelaide, people are reminded to continue practicing COVID safe behaviours even if they have recovered from COVID-19.

If I test positive for COVID-19, when can I leave isolation?

If you test positive for COVID-19, you must isolate for 10 days, unless you still have symptoms. Then you must isolate until you have no symptoms for 3 days. You do not need to have another test to leave isolation.

If your symptoms continue, contact your doctor or health care worker.

If someone in your house tests positive, this will not affect your isolation and you will be able to leave after 10 days.

You will not be considered a close contact if you are exposed to COVID-19 for 30 days after finishing isolation.

COVID-19 Vaccination rates

As reinfection is possible, vaccination continues to be our best defence against COVID-19.

If you do at some stage get COVID-19, once you have recovered and finished your isolation period, you can receive your first, second or booster dose (if you are eligible).

You should only delay your COVID-19 vaccination if you are still sick with COVID-19 or another condition.
