Welcome to another update from Aqua Clara Kenya! In this issue, you will read about the work we are doing in schools, a Learning Exchange we hosted bringing together organizations from different countries  and the upcoming International Training on Low-Cost Water Technologies. We are also excited to update you on the continued growth and strengthening of our business model through the WA-KE UP Programme.

Lets see what else the ACK Team has been up to…

Learning Exchange |  Water Expertise and Training (WET) Centres

The team from EKHCDC (Ethiopia WET Centre) from LEFT: Kidan Teni, Ruhama Bereket, Tsegahun Yaecob and Chernet Birhanu, join WASHiriki members in a traditional dance in Bomet, County.
In February, we were privileged to host a Learning Exchange bringing together other Water Expertise and Training (WET) Centres from Africa at our WASH Campus. A high powered delegation from our Canadian partner Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST) led by Tal Woolsey, the Vice President for Global Services, joined staff of the Zambia and Ethiopia WET Centres, together with our staff in the exciting weeklong event.

CAWST launched the WET Centre model in 2008 to build knowledge and skills of in-country organizations so that each WET Centre can do locally what CAWST does globally. Aqua Clara Kenya's Capacity Development arm, H2OPE Accelerator,  is one of 8 WET Centres globally and covers East Africa ( Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda).

FROM LEFT: Tal Woolsey (VP, Global Services, CAWST), John Nyagwencha (CEO, ACK) and Richard Masese (Assistant Chief, Biticha, Sub-Location)

The Learning Exchange provided an opportunity for the WET Centres and CAWST representatives to share experiences and learn new and best practices in implementing WASH interventions.

Brock Judiesch (LEFT) and Parviz Pulotov (CENTRE) CAWST's Senior Director for Business Development and Senior Global WASH Advisor respectively, interact with School WASH Club members in an ACK  partner school. On the right is Joyce Ndamikwa  from AFMAC (Zambia) presenting during one of the sessions.

The Learning Exchange would not be complete without an opportunity to learn about and appreciate the rich cultural diversity. Each country had an opportunity to showcase their traditional cuisine and plant trees at the Aqua Clara WASH Campus.

Rotary Project |  Visit by Rotary Club of Gachie

In the first line of photos, members of the Rotary Club of Gachie visit different schools and health care facilities that have undergone WASH improvement with their support. The photos below show the renovated sanitation facilities at schools in Bomet and Nyamira Counties.

Eva Muhia from Varet Products (SECOND RIGHT) visited ACK and shared different materials that are used for educating pupils and teachers about menstrual hygiene. Also in the photo are ACK staff together with Stew Martin (THIRD RIGHT) and Aaron Tanner (LEFT) from Transform International. ACK has launched Menstrual Hygiene training in all 30 schools that are part of the Rotary Project.
