Hello everyone
What a scorching summer we're having! Thankfully the orchard is coping well, in part to some extra water both retic and by hand over these extreme heatwaves. We got some burnt leaves on a few younger trees but no losses. Did you get to taste our 2021/2 nectarines? They conveniently arrived 2-3 weeks late this year (post Christmas & New Year holidays!) and had their usual bright flavour. Figs and pomegranates will be next.
We're working on a calendar of outdoor events for this covid-affected year, with mostly small group events, or with the flexibility to run in staggered small groups, like the olive orchard in late April. Like last year will have weekend busy bees to handle big jobs and monthly tree care on first-Mondays-of-the-month, in the hope we can get a bigger turnout than Fridays.
This Monday Feb 7th - the first of the month - is Tree Care Monday. From 9:15 - 10:15am, we'll do some feeding, fruit fly control and other summertime tasks for our orchard. Everyone welcome. Bring hats and any gardening tools you think would be useful. It is predicted to be a wonderfully mild day of 21degrees!
Our first busy bee will be Saturday Feb 19th 3:30-5pm (if the weather is kind). There will be plenty of jobs to tackle, including preparing the ground for an extension of our limestone path. More on this closer to the date.
