Computer Science: Instructor-led Option

We are presenting today at the statewide Curriculum Network.  For those unable to attend, our presentation can be found here.

As mentioned last month, we will be launching an instructor-led offering of the Art of Computer Science, where schools can enroll their students in a self-paced course that meets the requirements of House File 2629.  The course will be available in two different semesters (semester 1 and semester 2, or a full-year course) starting August 1 of 2022, though with the flex-start, your students can start any time they would like, even mid-semester.

New items

• An interest form is available at https://forms.gle/JAbyywwWzv4ynqdi7, and will help us staff for the anticipated interest in the course.  Priority registration for the course will be given to those who complete the interest survey, in the event that interest outpaces the staffing.

• Cost for the course in 2022-23 is $250/student per semester.

• Registration for the course will be available later this spring, as will the guidebook for participating schools.

New Evaluator Approval Course for Administrators: Authentic Learning

AEA Learning Online is offering a new course that meets the requirement for Evaluator Approval.  The course blends facilitated online learning with self-paced learning, meaning you can join any time from February 14th through the end of June.

The course centers on how to evaluate and coach teachers utilizing project-based learning and an authentic learning environment, which can be challenging to do given its non-traditional teaching format.  The course pulls together examples from authentic classrooms across the state, as well as the perspectives of leading administrators in the practice.

Authentic Learning Update

A great professional learning opportunity to help teachers better implement authentic learning in the classroom is to learn about the principles of Agile Scrum, a strategy used in business and across project teams worldwide.  Our Agile | Scrum site has self-paced professional learning resources for you.

Looking for more hands-on professional learning for your staff?  Our 2-day Scrum Playbook training is coming to an AEA near you.  The first one is this month at Central Rivers AEA, but check our site for additional locations throughout the spring.  Or, fill out this form to let us know of your interest in Agile Scrum training for your school.
