CAMBA held its annual fat bike race in Seeley, WI on Saturday, January 22 with a record field, reaching race capacity with 124 participants. The Seeley Big Fat Race is a fundraiser for CAMBA’s winter trail grooming budget and included a short (6-mile) and long course (14-mile).   The race finished with an After Party at the Sawmill Saloon.

Mother Nature brought 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight with 20 mph winds gusting to 35 mph.  CAMBA's Chief of Winter Grooming, Jerry Wright, and his crew re-groomed the course on race morning, providing racers with ideal course conditions.

Long Course winners were Ken Raiche from Lakeville, MN in the Men’s Division with a time of a time of 1:15:59 and Sonia Mattson from Burnsville, MN in the Women’s Division with a time of 1:18:51.

Short Course winners were Cody Condon from Rosemount, MN in the Men’s Division with a time of 32:20 and Anne Robb from Ashland in the Women’s Division with a time of 43:32.

Ken Raiche, CAMBA Board member and Race Director, states, “A huge THANK YOU to the racers, sponsors and volunteers for making the 2022 Seeley Big Fat race a massive fundraising success!  And, judging from the photos, a good time was had!”  The proceeds from the race fully support CAMBA’s 2022 Winter Fat Biking grooming budget.  In fact, 100% of the entries will go to CAMBA Winter fat biking.  The sponsors covered the entire cost of the race.

CAMBA would like to thank our generous sponsors: Presenting Sponsor HED Cycling; Supporting Sponsors New Moon Ski & Bike, Riverbrook Bike & Ski, Freewheel Bike, Wolf Tooth, Pivot Cycles and JAMBAR; and Contributing Sponsors Velo Cafe and Otso Cycles.

 CAMBA Winter Trail Update

Trail Conditions

Our head of CAMBA Winter reports all of our trails are in great shape right now. Current trail conditions are here.
Gordy's View

Last week we announced the opening of Gordy's View, a winter only trail in the Seeley cluster. Gordy's View adds to our winter trail portfolio -- a wider trail that provides an option to singletrack yet offers a similar near wilderness experience.  If you missed the article, including description, photo and link to the map, click here.
Big Easy Trail

Have you ever ridden the Big Easy Trail?  The trail is located at the OO Trailhead and begins by the large kiosk on the east side of the Samuel C. Johnson Family Center. (Don't worry, it's okay to cross the ski trail over to the kiosk at the start of the trail.) The Big Easy is wide with virtually no hills. It follows part of the Easy Strider Ski Trail and connects to Telemark Road.

The Big Easy makes a great warm-up or cool-down loop near the Seeley Pass and Makwa trails.  If you're looking for a larger loop, incorporate the Telemark Rd access point: ride Seeley Pass to the end, turn right and head south on Seeley Fire Tower Road, turn left on Boedecker Rd, turn right on Telemark Rd and right onto the Big Easy trail to finish at the OO Trailhead.  This route is
approximately 13 miles. See the Big Easy map below.

Check out the Big Easy trail soon. You always have the option to cap your ride with a beverage and social time in the warmth of the beautiful Samuel C. Johnson Family Center.
