But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Isa 40:31

End of Sabbatical

Our time of sabbatical has come to an end and it has been a great time of renewal, refreshment and readiness to re-enter ministry.  We started with a book, "Stuck", that turned out to be a favorite for both of us!  It dealt with working through ministry transition, and was both timely and very practical. This time has been precious in the Lord and we are grateful to be able to have done this.

We have so many plans worked out and are already heading back to Honduras this week for the first time in 2022. During our one month stay, we will renew our permanent residence status.  We'll be heading up to the training center in Tutule to work out ministry plans with Carlos and Esmeralda.  We will be meeting with the new CFI students (who are just starting classes) and look forward to setting up the new tablets that are being shipped to Honduras for CFI (see below).  We'll also be hosting Pastor Aaron Land from Georgia who is looking to bring a short term team from his church this summer.

While we have plans for this trip and this year, we are keeping our hearts and minds open to hear as the Lord guides us.

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
Prov 16:3

Lorcan - 5 months old!

A quick update on how our grandson, Lorcan, is doing.  He is adorable, healthy and growing! There is still a little kidney reflux and his kidneys will be watched for the rest of his life as he's susceptible to having issues.  Even so, he is doing incredibly well and we continue to praise the Lord for the amazing mercy shown  to Lorcan!  Thank you for your prayers!!

More Tablets for CFI

CFI is an educational ministry we partner with that Carlos and Esmeralda started in order to meet a real need of many Honduran youth and have an opportunity to share Christ with them.  This program uses a Honduran government education system for students who stopped schooling and now want another opportunity to continue.  The grades are from 7th to 11th and the ages range from 15 to 25.  Pre-COVID, in 2019, CFI had 28 students with only two Christians.

You may remember that during 2020 when COVID hit the Lord led Carlos and I to use tablets to keep the CFI program going.  That attracted more students and the enrollment increased to 44 students.  Then in 2021 enrollment climbed to 56 students.  Even more exciting is that three students gave their hearts to Jesus and were baptized!

At the end of 2021 CFI graduated their first high school class while during that same time the local high school in Tutule announced they were closing permanently due to COVID associated issues.  Carlos and Esmeralda were approached by the school system to see if CFI would be able to accept the students affected by the closure.  We are excited at the possibility of having up to 90 students!

To meet this need they would need 20 new tablets and there are 4 broken tablets to replace.  Fellowship Bible Church of WV has already funded 12 of the needed tablets and as I write this update those tablets are on their way to Honduras!  Praise the Lord!!

Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!

Knuckles' Corner

Up in the mountains Knuckles was spared all the fireworks at Christmas and New Years that are set set off in the town of La Paz, which is good because he didn't like the noise at all.  Even so, Carlos and Esmeralda made sure that he had his own special  quiet celebration!

Prayer Corner

  • Praise the Lord for each one who has supported us with your prayers and giving. We are only a part of the team. The "senders" are the other part. So grateful for each one of you!
  • Praise the Lord as our grandson, Lorcan, continues in good health!
  • Please pray for our travels, Feb 11 - Mar 14, for the Lord to go before us in all things, and that we would be sensitive to the leading of His Spirit.
  • Thank you for praying for our housing need in the US. The Lord has provided a house 10 minutes from Ellen's mom in Abingdon, VA. We are set to close on March 18th.

Team Honduras!!

Team Honduras is God working through you and us!
The current health crisis is also very much an economic crisis.  This is causing change and hardship on many fronts and we already know that this has affected some of you.  We are so grateful for the support we have received and look to the Lord for our future needs and pray for Him to meet your needs as well.

Teach me your way, O LORD,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.

 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God,
with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.
Psalm 86:11, 12
