Self Advocacy for Caregivers
One of the most pressing challenges a caregiver faces is knowing who to reach out to if a program, an agency, or a service provider does not function as agreed, promised, or contracted. It is important for a caregiver to feel empowered to advocate for their own needs. Sometimes to make that possible, a caregiver may need a few advocates to help direct and coach them toward solutions and change (as needed). Become your own best friend and advocate. If something sounds wrong, trust your instincts.
Call a professional listed in the March Caregiver Newsletter or the 55 Plus Resource Directory. If they are not the proper advocate, they will help direct you to the appropriate office. As a caregiver, you are always welcome to call our main line at 385.468.3280 with questions or concerns.
