NEW YEAR WALK
The weather forecast for Saturday 8th January was not good but those who read the predictions carefully realised that the heavy rain was not due until midday. So, though reduced to eight, the Framblers completed a two hour Rights of Way walk in little worse than a light drizzle. We even had glimpses of sky between the clouds. Our leader, Colin Ayers, chose a route that avoided the worst of the winter mud and we enjoyed tea and biscuits back at the ranch – or in this case the Council office. Every one of these walks attracts a mix of regulars and newcomers and they’re always enjoyable, whatever the weather. Look out for the next one in spring!
PAY & DISPLAY IN MARKET HILL!
MONDAY 14th FEBRUARY is the day the covers will come off the new meters in Market Hill and pay & display parking will commence following a two week delay to publicise the change.

From this date, parking in Market Hill will cost £1 for up to 2 hours with no return for the following 2 hours.
Motorists can obtain 30 minutes free parking through the parking meter or by using the RingGo app, downloadable onto a smart phone.

Charges will apply from 8am to 6pm seven days per week.
SOCIAL MEDIA & NEWS OPPORTUNITY

The Town Council is looking to add a key player to its new News Media team to set up a new Facebook page and keeping it updated and focussed. The role will involve creating and posting news items onto both our new website and our social media channels.

Starting from 1st March, it would suit a self employed person working from home, offering £100 per month. Some experience of working with charitable, community or local government organisations would be and advantage, but key would be expertise and enthusiasm in engaging online.

For further info, and to express an interest, please contact James Overbury at: dtc@framlingham.com

COVID-19 UPDATE MID-JANUARY 2022
Relaxation of Covid rules are about to be rolled out, however you may decide to continue observing some. Here is the most recent graph of cases recorded up to 13th January showing a recent drop in local infection rates.

The Framlingham Covid response team is continuing to record and publish the number of confirmed positive cases locally, as part of learning to live with the virus.
The figures cover a 7 day period in the Framlingham and Hacheston area, from the PHE interactive map. It is however an indicator only of frequencies of Covid-19 infection.
If you have a possible infection please follow the latest stay at home guidance.

Support is available during office hours from:

COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH VOLUNTEERS
The Town Council is calling for volunteers again for people to be trained and then to operate a Community Speed Watch Camera. This is a speed monitoring device like the Police use.

Under the Suffolk Police’s guidance and direction, it can be used at locations determined by them to help record speeding motorists. No summons can be issued if people are caught speeding, but those offending will be written to by the Police and repeat offenders will be identified and may lead to the Police operating their own speed cameras in an attempt to catch them.

Volunteers must submit a form to the Police, be vetted and then called for a training session by the Police. The Town Council began this process before Covid, and a number of volunteers came forward and submitted forms.

Unfortunately, Covid stopped the process and as the system has now changed and we need to ask people to apply again. We hope that those that came forward last time are not put off and will reapply - and apologies to them for having to do so.

If you would like to apply to be a Community Speed Watch Volunteer, please email the Deputy Clerk who will send you the application form: dtc@framlingham.com

CASTLE COMMUNITY ROOMS
SOD TURNING EVENT!

Exciting moment for Framlingham - Work has started on the new 11 month building project to replace St Michael’s Rooms with a new community building. To mark the beginning of construction a ‘sod turning’ event was held on the site on Tuesday 11th January attended by representatives from Framlingham PCC, the Town Council and East Suffolk Council.

Rev. Chris Davey said “It’s incredible, it’s been quite a long journey to get here. It’s just wonderful to know that within the next couple of weeks builders will be on site and by the end of the year we will have a new community facility.

It’s going to bring a modern affordable, accessible, environmentally sensitive building which will give us so much more than the building we have now, which is 130 years old and is very much feeling its age.”

The building, which will be demolished, can be recognised as the HQ of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club in the BBC series ‘The Detectorists’.

There are still a few 2022 Framlingham Calendars left. These have now been reduced to £2.50 each and are available from the Town Council office in Church Street, The Book Shop on Market Hill and at the Library in Bridge Street.
