Logan's Garden Shop sold their property, which includes the former Seaboard Train Station, to Turnbridge Equities in December 2021. Plans have now been filed for rezoning and redevelopment. (707 Semart Drive Zoning, Z-5-22) Join us to hear more about the redevelopment plans from Turnbridge and Parker Poe representatives.
On February 8 we will will be joined by Jason Davis from Turnbridge Equities, Neil Gray from J Davis Architects, and Jamie Schwedler and Matthew Carpenter from Parker Poe. They will provide an overview of the rezoning and redevelopment plans for 707 Semart Drive.
We will also hear a brief update about the proposed Courtland Drive cottage court and a police report.

What’s next for the MCAC?
 Established in 1974, the Raleigh CACs played a major role in connecting citizens to their government in constantly evolving ways. In February 2020, the Raleigh City Council abolished the Citizens Advisory Councils with no notice. The Mordecai CAC leadership team quickly decided to continue serving our community, pivoting to Zoom meetings as the pandemic further disrupted our lives. While we’ve retained the well-known “CAC” acronym, we’ve rebranded ourselves as a “Community Action Coalition” to highlight the many neighborhoods that make up the Mordecai community. During 2020 and 2021 we've met monthly and heard from a variety of speakers on important topics impacting our community.
The Mordecai CAC continues to inform residents about issues impacting their neighborhoods and finding ways to offer input on those issues. In 2022, we hope to safely reconnect in person while still providing ways to connect electronically. Our monthly programs will alternate between online meetings and “Community Connect” events where we visit neighborhood amenities to learn more about their mission. Our spring and summer programs are mostly locked in as well as a few special events:

- March 8 Tiesha Hinton, Raleigh’s new Community Engagement Manager
- April 12 Community Connect event: Emmaus at Pilot Mill, tour and social gathering
- May 10 TBA
- June 14 Community Connect event: Fletcher Academy, tour and social gathering
- June 26 Annual Mordecai community picnic on the grounds of the Mordecai House
- July 4 Neighborhood 4th of July Parade
- August National Night Out (date TBD)

The Mordecai CAC is the Mordecai Community Action Coalition. We are a coalition of multiple neighborhoods working together to provide ways for citizens to share information, meet each other, and take action in our community. Neighborhoods include: Pilot Mill, Oakdale, Mordecai, East Mordecai, North Person/Blount, Cotton Mill, Capitol Park, and part of Oakwood.
CO-CHAIR: We need a new MCAC co-chair. This person will serve a two year term and be responsible for working with a partner to plan meeting agendas and lead the direction of the CAC. If you are interested or know of a neighbor that would be good for the job, we'd love to talk to you.

Corner Pantry Items Needed!
Please keep our neighborhood Corner Pantry in mind for donations as you are able. It is at the corner of Glascock and Watauga Streets. We continue to welcome all to take what they need and leave what they can. The Corner Pantry has been utilized a great deal since being built, especially these past few months, so please help us maintain inventory by dropping off non-perishable foods as you are able. Thanks!

The MCAC Leadership team is open and welcomes any resident of the Mordecai Community. Our core group of 15-20 neighbors communicates regularly to plan meetings and share ideas for citizen engagement. We'd love to have more neighbors get involved. The leadership team is now communicating via a Slack Workspace. All residents are welcome to join.

MCAC Meetings/Minutes
The Mordecai Community Action Coalition meets at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of the month, September-June. Currently we are meeting on Zoom, and we also post our meetings on Facebook. All residents are encouraged to get involved with the MCAC.
