Dear Margaret

Beige line art "Dear Margaret" graphic. Dear Margaret, is healthcare really fatphobic? Anonymous. Dear Reader, Unfortunately, yes, there is plenty of fatphobia found in the medical and healthcare industries. The Boston Medical Center describes fatphobia as, "implicit and explicit bias of overweight individuals that is rooted in a sense of blame and presumed moral failing." There is a huge assumption that someone who is fat cannot be healthy (which is false) therefore leading many fat folks to receive poor health care or be told they, "just need to lose more weight." Clinical care teams also have a lack in experience of treating diverse body types, and aren't adequately prepared for in schooling. Not only does this stigma cause fat folks to receive inadequate care, the fear of being stereotyped often keeps fat individuals from seeking care, threatening their health. With love and care, Margaret. P.S...Fat is fabulous
