Programs come to you! Over 1,800 at-home learning kits have gone out to homes since January of 2021. SBPL developed monthly Maker Challenges as a response to COVID to provide take-home science and art activities for school-aged children.

OG Readers youth tutoring program grew to 733 sessions in 2021 despite the challenges of the pandemic.

SBPL introduced Library of Things. This new collection features items that can be used in hands-on STEAM learning. Patrons can check out items like guitars, telescopes, bird-watching kits, microscope, VR goggles, Cricut-maker, and much more!

We Open Doors to...What is SBPL Reading?
Every month we bring you suggested books to inspire your next read! Recommendations are brought to you this month by the Santa Barbara Public Library Crime, Fiction, and Romance Book Clubs.
Blacktop Wasteland
by S.A. Cosby

This Crime Book Club selection is an emotionally charged thriller/character study about a man willing to commit one last crime to save his family and livelihood. His decision might cost all he has worked so hard to achieve: his family, his business, and his identity.
The Vanishing Half
by Brit Bennett

SBPL's Fiction Book Club will discuss The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. Bennet produces a story that is at once a riveting, emotional family story and a brilliant exploration of the American history of passing. Looking well beyond issues of race, Benett considers the lasting influence of the past as it shapes a person's decisions, desires, and expectations, and explores some of the multiple reasons and realms in which people sometimes feel pulled to live as something other than their origins. Meeting- 2/8 5:30pm virtually, click here to sign up.
Whiteout
by Adriana Anders

The Romance Book Club will be discussing Whiteout. Isolated in the middle of a long, frozen winter with a madman at their heels, they must fight to survive in the most inhospitable—and beautiful—place on earth. But the outside world depends on what Ford and Angel know and, as their pursuers close in and their new partnership burns bright and hot, they will stop at nothing to make it out of the cold alive. Meeting- 2/9 5:30pm virtually, click here to sign up.
