Dear Miami University Rowing Club Alumni and Family,

Welcome back!

After a short holiday break, the team is back and hard at work. Ready to tackle another semester of rowing with another brand new set of ambitious goals.

First off, on behalf of the entire executive board, we are excited to announce that we have raised over $12,565 of our 20,000$ goal towards purchasing a new women's eight. Because of your continued support and extremely generous donations we are able to continue to operate at an competitive level and provide the Women's team with an opportunity they would not have otherwise for years to come. We are tremendously grateful for your contributions and look forward to be able to purchase the new boat for our team with the Capital Campaign coming to a close on February 28.

Outside the world of finances, there are many exciting events coming up to be on the look out for; such as hosting our very own regatta. RedHawk Sprints will be the revitalization of our annual spring regatta on Lake Acton at Hueston Woods, an event which has not occurred since pre-COVID in 2019. After some exhilarating racing, we will be hosting our family and alumni gathering that very same night to celebrate and honor the people who continue to back our team. All friends, family, and alumni are welcome and encouraged to come and more information regarding these events will be posted below.

We look forward to hosting you this coming semester and thank you all again for your unwavering dedication to our team.

Capital Campaign Update

From our launch of the Capital Campaign on November 29th, we have successfully raised $12,565 of our $20,000 goal. An incredible feat, and one that could not have been done without your unwavering support. This purchase not only will provide our women's team with a safe and reliable boat that they desperately need and deserve, but also provide them with the continued opportunity to grow competitively.

We have decided to put an end date of February 28th, in order to have ample time to process the raised funds and to purchase and test out our brand new addition to the fleet before the end of the semester.

If you have not donated, or are interested in contributing please follow the link below to our secure donation portal through the university.

Every amount big or small helps us towards our goal of securing the legacy of the women's team and maintain our reputation as the premier student organization here at Miami University.

RedHawk Sprints

Regattas and the experiences and opportunities they provide to teams to compete and show off their hard work and dedication are a fundamental part to the sport of rowing. The ability to host such prestigious events and bring together a multitude of different clubs is considered to a high honor for the team hosting. We are privileged enough to have the ability and resources to host such an event this year by bringing back our very own regatta, Redhawk Sprints.

On April 9th teams from around the Midwest that have accepted our invitations will compete on the waters we train on of Lake Acton.

We would also like to take a moment to honor our alumni that have came before us and brought this team to where it is today. So in addition to our club competing, we will be hosting an alumni race. In which all alumni interested will be able to participate and compete against other clubs alumni for a small boat fee that will go to help continue to support our team.

Following the events of the race day we will be gathering again at night for food, drinks, and festivities. Location and details are still being determined so keep an eye out for future newsletters for more information as we get closer.

All family, friends, and alumni are welcome and encouraged to be here to celebrate the club we all cherish.

We hope to see you all there!

Alumni Feature: Jenna Prahst & Gunnar Kadlic '21

Gunnar Kadlic '21 and Jenna Prahst '21 post-graduation at the doors of the Boathouse.

How would you describe your experience while a part of the Miami University Rowing Club, both as a rower, and as previous Women’s Captain and Equipment Manager?

Jenna Prahst: “My experience at MURC basically encompassed my entire college experience, it is where I made my best friends and created my fondest memories that will stick with me for a lifetime. I would describe it like being a part of a big weird family where you always feel like you can be your true self. As a rower I continued to find love for pushing myself to the limits and learning how hard work can pay off over time.

My experiences as women’s captain left a huge lasting impact on me. Through the good times and the really tough times, it taught me so much about leadership, collaboration, and above all else how to let my voice be heard. As someone who has always been described as shy, quiet, and introverted, being captain forced me to step out of my comfort zone and be a leader. I vividly remember when I first got elected as women’s captain, I was just a sophomore and I was so filled with self doubt about my ability to live up to the position. Looking back now, I am so proud of how far I came and how much I was able to contribute to the team with the time I spent there.”

Gunnar Kadlic: “My experience with MURC was great! It allowed me to make a lot of amazing friends and connections as an incoming freshman which helped with easing into college life. Getting to head out to Acton Lake 4-5 days a week was always a great break from school. The team allowed me to travel to some awesome places like Boston, Chattanooga, Pittsburg, Oak Ridge, and many others. After experiencing the team for a few semesters as a general member, I decided that I wanted to step up into a leadership role. This led to my role as Equipment Manager which allowed me to really give back to the team. During the pandemic, the team was practicing less and not traveling which allowed me to get some much-needed improvements done to the boathouse and acquire some new equipment. Overall, whether it was in the role of rower or equipment manager, my experience on the team was one of the highlights of my college experience.”

MURC Boosters / Volunteers

Regattas are an extremely involved process as there are a ton of moving parts that go into making sure rowers are prepped and ready, boats go out in a timely manner, setting up equipment, and of course, the racing itself. Hosting our own regatta will also bring in a whole new set of challenges to overcome.

Miami Rowing is hoping to set up a Boosters Club in which families are able to sign up and help directly contribute to necessities at regattas such as fresh food and water.

Volunteering your time as well at regattas can be a huge help to the team as this will allow us to better prepare and help the team provide some of these supplies that we wouldn't otherwise be able to.

If you are interested or have not already signed up, please fill out the Google Form below to help contribute at future regattas!
